Mostly good

I watched this on Netflix when it premiered Thursday, and for the most part, it's pretty good.

Finn Wolfhard's character, Ziggy, can be a lot to take, but he's terrific in the role. Julianne Moore is pretty good to.

A pretty solid effort from Jesse Eisenberg, based on his Audible Original. The ending was a bit underwhelming. It just kind of... happened.

It's funny. I've became oddly obsessed with this movie since the end of last year. In January 2023, Wolfhard appeared on Jimmy Fallon. My best guess was that he was there to promote Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio. I knew it was too early/late for Stranger Things 4/5. I was also thinking maybe it was Hell of a Summer, which he had mentioned in recent interviews. Well, he and Jimmy discussed this A24 film directed by Jesse Eisenberg and co-starring Julianne Moore. Sure, okay. I love A24. I'm a Stranger Things fan. Let's do this. I didn't see it in theaters, so I figured I'd just catch it on Blu-ray.

When the time comes to put my Christmas list together, I discover that the film has yet to be released on Blu-ray... or any non-PVOD format period. I could only watch it if I rented or bought it from Amazon or Google or wherever else as a digital purchase. I don't even know how to do that, even if I wanted to. It got to the point where I would check on a daily basis whether there was any word of a Blu-ray or streaming release. It was radio silent until the end of February, when I learned that the film would finally make its streaming debut on Netflix March 28... a whopping 14 months after its theatrical release! What other movie in the last 20 years has had to wait that long to get a post-theatrical release? It felt like this was a "lost" film.

Well, now it's released and available to watch anytime. I hope A24 and Lionsgate are planning a Blu-ray release eventually. One it's release, it's mine. Never again to be a "lost" film.
