Gere's Character Made This Watchable

I didn't connect at all with this film (despite a good performance by Hawke and an okay performance by Cheadle), but Richard Gere kept me glued to the screen. I think a lot of folks forget hat despite his plethora of romantic comedies, he has some serious acting chops when given the right material. He's done some good stuff recently, but I believe this might be he best.

I personally could have watched a more fleshed-out, entire film about Gere's character, with more explained about his career as a patrolmen, and his existence got so damn bleak. Anyone agree?

I have to say that they were all good. The only thing I have with this movie is that I could see everything coming from a mile away in this movie.

I did like Richard Gere's character the most. I could just relate to him. I'm sort of the same way. I'm sort of out of it, blah blah blah.

While I enjoyed this movie, it basically follows a similar template to The Departed.

I agree, it did remind me of The Departed in a way.

I agree. Gere's parts were my favorite. Personally, I would preferred a full-length movie that focused on his character only. Focusing on his wife, and his career, and why he is the way he is (depressed and suicidal).

I loved Richard Gere in this and I wish his character had gotten more screen time but I quite enjoyed Ethan Hawke in it too, Don Cheadle was pretty good but I mainly wanted to watch it for Richard Gere and he gave the best performance out of everyone.

real human being and a real hero

The only one of the three main roles that I cared about.

Yeah, I felt the same way about the movie....Gere's storyline was captivating, but they kept cutting away with it. All the other actors were strong--Hawke, Cheedle....but I was into the Cheedle storyline as much. I saw the longer director's cut version of this movie where Gere had more scenes, so I was disappointed when I bought the amazon instant video version of it and they chopped a lot! A lot of the development showing Gere's transformation and the satisfying ending where we see Gere get rewarded all gone... I think for viewers who've faced similar situations to Gere they can relate to watching a burn out get some redemption...it was really interesting to watch.

Ya I wasn't expecting Gere's acting to be as subdued as it is in this film...
