I saw the film today in Holland where it came out this week and I really loved it! It's a refreshing romantic comedy that doesn't feel like most American romcoms and is truly funny and touching. The two leads, especially Zeta-Jones, are great and the child actors are also terrific.
shareHonestly I can't see why so many people liked this crappy and boring rom-com. It's quite formulaic and generic. The fact that this time the leading lady falls in love with a much younger fellow doesn't change those facts in the least.
In addition 'The Rebound' is uber corny and sappy. i.e. Bartha's character is sooo good that he only needs "wings" to be an "angel", C'mon! Catherine Zeta-Jones does a passable job, but the rest of the cast disappoints.
The ending is silly and again unoriginal: "the young man who travels around the world and returns home wiser".
Finally for a romantic-comedy I don't find it really romantic and certainly is not funny at all.
My advice: throw the DVD, Blu-ray to the trash can and watch 'The Graduate' instead.

sharei am getting rather bored of rom coms but sometimes i just want a film that doesn't require too much concentration and brain work and this is the film i choose to watch, and i actually loved it!
i think it might just have something to do with Justin Bartha...but hey, at least i still enjoyed it :D
'all that glisters is not gold'
With movies, it's either you like them or you don't. No big deal (though you couldn't tell when reading the craziness on these boards). But I really liked this movie. It surprised me.

It's pacing was perfect, you could really see the relationship building between Justin Bartha and CZJ's characters whereas in other Rom-Coms these things would be rushed. The pacing made it more believable in the Rebound because as the audience we see and experience the things that they are connecting with and building their relationship over. I loved it :D
Even the end, though predictable, seemed RIGHT. I think if they didn't end up back together, it would've wrecked the movie for me.
It was a good romantic comedy and I feel bad that it wasn't promoted at all in America. I don't even know if it had a theatrical release. It was fun to see Catherine Zeta Jones play a "real" person for once (although I guess she did that in the chef movie). And other than some clunky one-liners and some brat acting from the kids, it played fairly believable. Good chemistry between the leads too. I bought them as a couple quite easily and that's all you really need for a rom-com. That and hopefully the characters aren't totally stupid.

Unbelievably bad movie actors had no chemistry and the script must have been written by well any one with a writing instrument.
Catherine Zeta was hot as always and the little girl was a riot why did they replace her with a troll at the end of the movie?
It was cute but Catherine made the movie. She was the best thing in this. I wasn't really caring much for the movie until I reached the end of their story.
I suspect it is a hard story for people to believe but I know there are special people in this world and meaningful and honest relationships that need make sense for themselves.
I thought this movie was incredible. It was true to its title Rebound. Two people on the rebound who built a real relationship out of pain from a previous relationship in spite of their unlikely alliance. Under different circumstances they probably would have never even passed the time of day. The movie had humor, dialogue story and acting. I mean its probably not for everybody but I enjoyed it.
