This movie has a 4.5 rating, a Rotten Tomatoes score of 8% and yet I just looked and it's listed as #1 in box office. What does this say about americans (of which I'm one of)?
I mean, what do they do? Just decide on what to watch based on a poster or a commercial they saw on TV?
If your movie doesn't doesn't get me interested in 20-30 minutes, it probably sucks.

shareYeah, I'd attribute it to the teens who apparently don't know how to illegally download movies--or more likely, they just go to movies rather indiscriminately and just for social reasons. Americans aren't any more stupid than anybody else, but they are YOUNGER on average than people in a lot of other developed countries. Adults in America don't go near a movie theater on weekends lest they be mistaken for either chaperones or sex predators.
I hope the success of this movie doesn't usher in a new wave of tame, boring PG-13 horror movies.
lol oh pls enjoying a film like this has nothing to do with someone's intelligence. Your not some superior human being just because u enjoy a different type of film. I am sure the reason this film was so successful is because it is a fun mindless horror film to watch. And surprise most ppl go to the theaters to have a good time.
I suggest you lighten up and try to enjoy yourself at the cinema instead of nitpick every film you see.

That's just stupid. A trailer is designed to make a movie look it's best. You cant use that if you want an honest opinion. A smart person would look at aggregate critic and user ratings before spending their money on crap.

Judging a movie based on the trailer has been successfully working for me 99 out of 100 times!
Judging movies based on CRITICS always had the opposite effect on me. When a critic likes a movie, it usually turns out to be a movie that sucks.
A trailer will let you SEE FOR YOURSELF if you think you'd like the movie. Seeing a movie because a critic says it's good is like you seeing the movie because SOMEONE TOLD YOU TO!
A smart person would form his or her OWN opinion and not let some critic decide for him or her!
I like the movies that I like not the movies that a critic TELLS ME to like!

I'm not a sheep so I'm not going to listen to other people on what to do with my time. I have seen plenty of good movies that aren't liked by critics and seen plenty of horrible movies that are liked by critics. I choose for myself. What some people don't like other people do like. It's called individuality. Maybe you should try it. Be a doer not a follower! Just some helpful advice.

shareThis might be strange but I found it works for me. However I only do this for horror movies. When a horror movie is advertised via trailers etc I will become either interested or not. At which point I will wait for after it comes out (usually) and go to wikipedia to read over the plot since now people post plots there pretty quickly. If the plot seems interesting I'll check it out since it goes over what actually happens in the movie.
Critics I could care-a-less about. It's their job to rate movies but most of them will rate a horror movie against something like Godfather which is weird so I just don't mess with em.

Horror fans are very loyal. They are very supportive of their genre and will watch just about anything as long it's horror whether they think it'll be good or not. Sometimes even the bad horror movies are fun in their own way. Boring is the worst thing a film can be in my opinion, not bad.
This particular film wasn't good or bad to me. Just kind of bland. I don't feel much of anything towards it.
