The actress who plays Lisbon SUCKS!

She seriously sucks. Every time she comes on screen, I lose interest and begin rolling my eyes. Her acting is on par with a beginner in acting class just doing a skit for the class. She is TERRIBLE and has awful timing in her dialogue delivery. I also don't understand the people who madly want her character with Jane.. they have zero chemistry. At least it feels that way to me because Simon Baker is SO talented and just carries this whole show. I think if they had cast more skilled actors for Lisbon and the other team members, this show would have been MUCH more popular.

I couldn't disagree more. I think Robin Tunney is a great actress and I thought she did such a great job of playing Lisbon that I cant even imagine another actress playing the part. I agree that Simon Baker is incredibly talented and easily the best actor on the show, but I think they put a very talented group around him, I felt everyone else in the main cast besides Baker completely nailed their roles. Also, the show was one of the highest rated and most popular shows on TV for its first few seasons, it regularly brought in over 15 million viewers per episode, so I don't see how having a different cast around Baker could have possibly made the show any more popular than it already was.

yeah I thought the whole mentalist cast was very strong.
At least until season 6 when you saw the dreadful performance from Emily swallow (kim character)

Emily Swallow was never good in The Mentalist. She never really fit into her character, in my opinion. However, she has been very good in http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4346788/?ref_=ttep_ep1 as the evil sister of God known as The Darkness - (Yes, it's odd theology but it's a universe unto itself.) She will never be a favorite actress of mine, but she is good in that character, also known as Amara.

Agreed. I loved Tunney and all the five original cast members. But in the last few seasons Rockmond Dunbar won me over as my new number one character just because he was an amazing actor and his character was bad ass.

I find your lack of foreskin disturbing

I thought she did fine in her role, but I agree with you that she and Jane never had romantic chemistry.

I thought Robin Tunney did a fine job. I can't think of any other actress I would have gotten to play her part. I thought her character was weak, however, in that she seemed to make a lot of lame decisions and I wondered how well she was at closing a case if not for Jane. I think she should have been more on par with Jane as far as her detective skills. More sparing would have been fun.

I thought she and Jane had good friend chemistry, not smoldering lust, to start. I believe they did a good job growing together during the course of the show, so that it became natural for them to have the kind of bond and friendship that, when threatened, made each aware their relationship had gone beyond friendship. I think it is the kind of love that people have who are committed, like the arranged marriage in Nectar in a Sieve, or even in "Love Comes Softly". They were an older couple, unlike the passion of Rigsby and Van Pelt, Jane and Lisbon were in their late 30's or early 40's by the shows end. Their relationship had grown through mutual trust and commitment, familiarity, concern, and watching each other's backs and putting each other's lives before their own. I think that is what made the chemistry strong at the end, so that there was no one else I could see them getting married to.

the writers wanted Jana and Lisbon relationship to be similar to Watson and Holmes. With Jane/Sherlock always two steps ahead of their colleagues.

I thought it worked well with Jane sparing being provided by Red John.

reply

Though I like Tunney, I also never really saw much chemistry with Lisbon and Jane. And I don't think I was the only one, because for the half season they were actually together, you would barely know it. I think they put them together just to satisfy those who demanded it, but without ever fleshing it out.

rewatching season 6 and tunney's performance are actually very good. Her glances to Jane and character interaction make compelling viewing. In short she did a brilliant job.

I always thought she had a just sucked a lemon look on her face.
