Not AT ALL! Not even CLOSE! Did you even SEE The Graduate???????? Or maybe you didn't see Cemetery Junction!

No,wrong.
Only the last scene on the train was similar.

plus the fact that she leaves her perdictable life and boyfriend to try the unpredictable with the new guy

reply

The ending reminded me a bit of the Graduate, but thats where the similarity ends.

reply

The Graduate is a classic film. This film is fairly average and won't be a classic. Any film that people try to compare to The Graduate is nowhere near as good.

reply

they run off together at the end, that's the only similarity i can divine.

reply

Not at all like the Graduate, apart from that scene.

When he asked her mum for a dance, i actually did wonder if that was where it was heading, then at the end when i saw that scene again it made me think of the Graduate!

reply

What are you on? This is NOTHING like the Graduate. Did you actually see that movie? Sheesh...

reply

I don't believe you've seen either film.

reply

OP is quite clearly a troll. They might as well have said: The English version of Gone With the Wind for the contentious replies that would've also got.

The English version of The Graduate.

You cannot be serious.

I had the same reaction! But it's more of a combo of The Graduate and a million other films of the small-town working-class group of friends: Georgia / Four Friends; American Graffiti; Billy Elliot; Flashdance. Can anyone think of any more? What should we call this sub-genre?

When you think of garbage, think of Hakim!

I thought it was more like the British kitchen sink films of the early 1960s but without either the guts of Room at the Top or Saturday Night, Sunday Morning or the surreal charm of Billy Liar. In terms of plot it was closer to Billy Liar - will people trapped in a mundane small town escape into the wider world? Not that this theme of dissatisfaction with a dull existence was confined to that genre of film, it forms the background to lots of "Swinging Sixties" films like Alfie and even later films like "That'll Be The Day".

reply

It reminded me of 'northern soul' and soul boy- def that genre of 'escape from small town' whether through music, dance, a girl etc.
It did remind of the graduate at the end, and I was worried for a second that they were going to look all uncomfortable like in t g! So was glad when they laughed and seemed happy.
But I think it was more a nod to that kind of film where they have to run off and *have* to catch that last train/ boat/ plane.
Really enjoyed the film even if a bit cheesy!

There are a lot of coming of age films like this.
