Lame and way overrated

IMHO, this movie is not good.
The script is very sloppy.
Bill Murray is out of place for the time period.
It doesn't know if it's a comedy or drama and fails as either.
Photography is too pretty for the story.
Editing is weak.
Duvall is excellent in the climax, but the script forces him to be on one note for the preceding hour and forty five minutes!
Thumbs down.

Bill Murray is always fascinating to watch and Duvall, as you say, is outstanding in the climax.

definitely weak. the whole movie builds up this great "secret". then the secret ends up leaving the robert duvall character completely free of guilt in her death. he says he tried to help her, so it's not like he left her for dead. the fact that she was bludgeoned with a hammer makes it less likely that she would have survived anyway. this leaves duvall completely free of guilt, with a pathetic happy ending. also a terrible waste of bill murray. if anything, bill murray should have played Felix, and the secret should have been much darker.

The guilt of Felix Bush came from having a relationship with a married woman. He basically wrecked Mary Lee's relationship and in turn also led to the accident with her and her husbands death at the time when they where going to run away together. That establishes Felix as a sensetive guy and quite far from what everyone else around him, who didn't know him and imagined the worst possible about his character.

it was a great movie, it was entertaining which is and should be the purpose of all movies, it kept me entertained for almost 2 hours. I think we try a little too hard these days to make things into something the are not, its a movie plain and simple.

I agree with the OP, this is not very good at all

I love Bill Murray but,he cannot act a lick in ANY film.

Yeah, I thought it was just okay. I love a lot of the cast, they turned in great performances, it has really nice production design, good cinematography, etc., but the script is a combo of too choppy and too boring, with a lot of it being also kind of predictable and cliche, which didn't help. The uneven tone didn't help either.

Early on I was looking forward to a bunch of wild stories about Felix Bush, a bunch of tall tales, and i was hoping maybe we'd get imagined flashbacks--that would have been fun, bit of course that's not the direction it took. I didn't care for the choice to make it essentially a melodrama.
