Does it get better after jumping the shark?

At the beginning of Season 5, this show becomes downright stupid, which is disappointing because it was mostly brilliant until then. I stopped watching it because I couldn't stand anymore. But I do want to see how it turns out. Please tell me. Does it get better again, or does it continue to fly off the rails?

Do you have 9.60 a month? Watch it on Netflix.

reply

I am watching it on Netflix, but I don't know if it's worth wasting any more time on. The show was great up until this season. I watched a few episodes in, but it didn't seem to be getting any better. Like I said, I'd love to finish what I started but, if it's going to continue being so ... bad ... I've got a lot of other shows on my watch list.

Your going to want see the end. Besides it's only a half hour show with short 10 or 12 episode seasons. Most shows are an hour with. 24 episodes. So when you think of it like that if your just starting S5 you have about the equivalent of 16 episodes left. Less than a season of most drama/comedies. Of course this theory is out the window if your used to watching half hour shows or shows with short seasons lol. Anyway. Keep watching. Your going to want to see it through to the end. You'll want to see how it ends. Hell you've made it this far

I finished watching it on Wednesday. It gets better and then you hate it. It's honestly, a roller coaster. You love Jackie and then you freaking hate her. Your heart with break for Zooey, her daughters especially Fiona. Honestly there were so many times I just wanted to just smack Jackie around.

reply

Poor Zoey. I almost feel like Jackie broke her. Or her spirit anyway. She was making the right choice for herself I guess. But would things have ended differently if she wanted to go with Jackie?

reply

Right! But I was proud of her. No one likes being codependent. She's a beautiful soul. I found her annoying the first few episodes but she grew on me.

reply

I love Zoey. At first I thought she was wierd. Not a bad thing.then I started to realize that that is what I probably look like to other people. Then she danced over pancakes for dinner and I knew for sure...I am Zoey. Or Zoey is me or whatever. Anyway how could I NOT love her?

reply

It's not worth it. I gave up at the start of season 4, when Jackie betrays yet another person...AND GETS AWAY WITH IT!! The most despicable protagonist I've ever seen in any show or movie!

reply

If you're already five seasons in, I would finish it

reply

Yes, just watch it. The reset at the beginning of season 5 was indeed idiotic and disappointing, but the show was worth sticking through to the conclusion.

reply

This show got stupid after season 1, when you figured out that everyone kisses Jackie's butt, wants to jump her bones, and she gets away with murder, even though she's not that charming or even good-looking. O'Hara is very desperate to have such a lying, manipulative fool as a BFF!

reply

Thanks, everyone, for your feedback. I just finished the series finale and it was definitely worth finishing. Yes, the beginning of Season 5 was a train wreck, but they pulled it out and made it worthwhile.

I agree with you!

Yes it has its missteps but my favorite seasons were the later ones. By season 6, Jackie's antics got even more wild but were thrilling. Zoey shined the brightest she'd ever had by the end and so did Coop. Gloria was always great. Carrie evolved into very likeable. Though he's a decent guy, the only character I didn't have much sympathy for was Eddie.

I think it's interesting given the fact that the original creators left midway through the show.

reply

I wouldn't say it jumped the shark but like most showtime shows it lasted to long.

reply

Season 5 was the most boring season which is understandable cause she was in rehab and trying to stay sober for the duration of the season. Season 6 and Season 7 were very good. I think Season 6 2nd half and the first half of Season 7 were the best part of the entire series.

There was never any shark in sight during any of Nurse Jackie's seven seasons. If you want to find out how the show goes, watch it. If you don't like it, forget about it and move on.
