What happened at the end of the penultimate episode? (spoilers)

When Vigilante Jones jumps off the roof, Jackie, who's just swallowed more pills, exclaims 'he flew!'. The sound is a bit echoey to reflect her altered state, and she doesn't scream or react as anyone would at witnessing a suicide. I assume this was not played for comedy, and that Vigilante must have died or been severely injured, but there's no mention in the final episode of the guy who jumped off the roof.
