Russians = morally corrupt (not to mention physically repulsive) oligarchs.

Americans = ordinary Joes who achieve success in life through hard work and dedication.

The way Hollywood shapes the perception of cultures.

Agree. The Russians somehow redeem themselves in the end by saving their kids but they have to die in the proccess.
I didn't like either the hero telling the Russian billionaire off for buying billion dollars tickets for his relatives, while himself tried to enter the arch illegally and by doing so endangered the expedition until its very end.

Plus, the whole Africa-is-the-new-continent now seemed SO contrived. Specially as the heroes of the movie were an all-white family and the black characters spent their time appraising them, and trying to help, even when they threatened to damage the whole expedition.
What was so special about this family anyway?

Selective viewing or just trolling?

The biggest douche of the film (besides Mother Nature) is Platt- American. The bodyguard/pilot who sacrifices himself for everyone else- Russian.

Sooooo...... shut up and get a clue.

What about the fact that the Russian billionaire had tickets for all his cars that he ended up not being able to take, and still wouldn't help anyone else. He literally wasted tickets for people on cars that were gone and left a bunch of people he knew quite well to die.

Just keep telling yourself that and it MIGHT come true. Probably not though. Also, after you've posted this at least three times over(that I've run across so far), I'm beginning to think that you have a personal grudge against Russians. Is your real name Frank Stallone and do you have a reoccurring role on "World's Dumbest Presents..."? lol

This is a good point; I think the character Yuri's behaviour makes a point about how some people might behave, given that scenario. Some people care more about their 'things' than those around them and that would surely intensify in an end-of-the-world situation.

I am pretty sure he wasn't planning on taking those cars on the Ark. He never knew when the call would come, therefore just went on with his life. Part of his life is an autoshow. In fact the assistent/ bodyguard to Yuri says they have found an Antonov. If it was Yuri's Antonov, he would have called it THE Antonov and they would know where to find THEIR pilot/ co-pilot.

I thought the Russians acted like rich people do, who are used to getting whatever they want. The American guy (Anheuser) that claimed to be president and was a real jerk when *beep* hit the fan, acting on his own behalf to make sure HE would survive, now THAT would be the dispicable figure here.

The other poster is an idiot who didn't pay attention during the movie. During the scene in question, Yuri and the others are discussing the Las Vegas Auto Show(this converstation starts upon the others first seeing the cars in the Antonov's cargo hold) to which Yuri replies(in so many words), "Yeah, I had VIP tickets for it"(obviously referring to the auto show when he says 'it'). But, the other poster insists he was talking about having additional Ark tickets for these cars.

Uh oh. Underwear on the highway. Uh oh.

They literally would not have sold tickets for cars to get on the Arcs. The cars were for the car show in Vegas, to which Yuri did have tickets. Yuri was interested in cars and would have bought one of the types on the plane, according to one of his sons (if it hadn't been for the intervening destruction of the world). That was how he knew how to start the Bentley.

..sorry, relating to the OP's subject. I think Sasha was one of the absolute heroes of the film. Shame he had to die.

Yup, that's Hollywood.

I think it gets worse when there's a republic in the white house, but it may be just a coincidence.

Oh, and don't forget to feel sorry for the holocaust ! That's also part of the plan.

Sasha was a good guy, and the blonde female Russian seemed like a good person.
