Any survivors?

Do you suppose there any survivors that weren't on the ark? I kind of feel they ended the movie just when it got interesting. I'd like to see what the world looked like and if there were any random survivors.

It is conceivable that there might have been ... I'm sure Kevin Costner did - Waterworld (1995)?

You would have gotten your wish granted had the tv series Emmerich was developing had been made. It would have been all about what happened post-apocalypse(assumedly this would have included run-ins with any non-Ark survivors).

You'd think there would be the occasional ship/submarine/mountain top/aeroplane with survivors. I wonder how long a 747 could stay in the air with extra tanks and sacrificial air tankers?

And maybe some people underground bunkers if place was water tight and survived earthquake.

All of Africa was above the water. So a few hundred million Africans survived. What happens when the arks full of rich white people arrive there would be interesting.

There was a slight alternate ending with the cruise ship with Frick & Frack surviving the giant wave and ending up on top crashed on a mountain top.

Nuclear submarines would pose a Clear & Present Danger

Were you paying attention? THE ENTIRE PLANET was under water for weeks. All of it. All the countries, all the continents, even the highest mountains in the world.
After some time (I can't recall how long, but they do mention this in the movie), the waters recede then, and part of what used to be Africa re-emerged. by then everybody in the world had already DIED, except for the survivors in the arks.

Actually, the survivors were saying the African continent was the new roof of the world, as it had risen thousands of feet. They speculated parts of Africa had escaped inundation. As the final view of the planet shows, there was a large lake surrounded by greenery in the middle of continent.
