Well considering. . . .

. . the fact that it has only beein released to 76 theaters, $408,000 domestic is pretty damn good. it made almost 3x that in the foreign box office, giving its close to $2,000,000 in its opening weekend. its not playing at any of the theatres where i live, so i guess ill wait for the DVD :(

Stupid limited release, but I agree with you on it being pretty good. They should release it in 400 theatres as they have seen it is making money. It´s a shame that real movies made by real directors and with real actors in them are getting these sorts of releases, while silly films like ´Year One´are everywhere.

i know! ACTORS like Michelle Pfeiffer are voerlooked, people who have talent arent getting the recognition they deserve, while all these dopey comedies and action movies get the spotlight. people just dont appreciate ACTING anymore.

Sorry but $408,000 on 76 screens is not good at all. Compare that to The Hurt Locker which made $144,000 on just 4 screens and Whatever Works, which made $386,000 on only 35 screens. The mostly mixed reviews didn't help, but Miramax is to blame for a dumb release strategy. This type of film should have opened on 4 or 5 screens in NY, LA, Boston, etc, then gradually expanded in the next few weeks, not to mention this is the type of film that draws better in the fall, not the summer. Just a really puzzling decision from a usually very smart studio.

Juanita, what did you think of the movie and the performances?

This should have had a wider release with better marketing. I wonder why they didn't release it late in the year with all of the Oscar-nominated films. Michelle Pfeiffer and Kathy Bates are both awesome and their resumes speak for themselves. And don't forget the talent behind the camera as well. Doesn't make sense. But America doesn't really have the best taste when the top movies at the box office are commercial ones like The Hangover and Transformers. I am one of the few who is watching Cheri when most people are next door watching the ones I just listed. Unfortunately, talent doesn't always win out.
