Clearly this is an unpopular opinion, but I have to say that I like them both. The kills in this one are far more gory and elaborate than in the original (7 minutes to play, the mirror at the end), and Jackie Earle Haley could've been the new Freddy Krueger, I absolutely loved his performance.

I think the problem lies with people feeling any remake of any classic movie, is Hollywood taking a huge dump on their false sensation of nostalgia, like it happened with the Star Wars prequels. It's popular to think "new age crap" always sucks, and the original will always prevail yadayadayada. People jump on the bandwagon prematurely, instead of forming their own, unbiased opinions, which shows that they're easily manipulated by the masses, and give into peer pressure.

Or they secretly do like some of the "new age" stuff, but won't admit it to anyone, because they have to appear like movie snobs to everyone else.

Jackie was so right for the part, but due to the vocal minority, consisting of nostalgic crybabies, there's already talks about yet another reboot/remake. And this movie performed very well at the box office too. There has been talks about Robert Englund reprising his role, just to please the irrational fanboys of the Internet. While I do love Robert Englund's Freddy Krueger, I think he has become too old by now, and that's where Jackie came in, to potentially take over his shoes.

In my opinion, both movies are great, but the original is still the best. Both versions of Freddy are equally great in their own right. They both play different versions of the same character, and I think people tend to forget that when inevitably comparing the two. Englund will always be the comedian Freddy (yes, I know, he wasn't "always a comedian"), but I think Earle Haley was perfect as the more menacing and serious version of Freddy. Truly a shame that he never got the chance to reprise his role, and potentially change the shared mindset of the sheep.

The mirror scene was great but the 6 minutes to play line was painfully badly written, it just didn't feel right. I don't blame Haley for that as I thought his turn as Krueger easily equaled Englunds first two movies if not slightly better in tone. Although I felt that the writers made him talk too much making him not as have the air of mystery to him. I'd like to know how much screen time Krueger had in this movie as he only had 7 minutes in the original. Sometimes the new age stuff actually does suck. Just like sometimes the old age stuff sucked. Hollywood does have a tendency to remake stories that frankly don't need to be. Did you actually think the Poseidon remake was better than the original? It just wasn't and there was no need to even remake it other than using a recognizable name. After watching this movie I came to the same conclusion it wasn't a bad movie by any stretch but after it ended I was just like OK. The Kellan Lutz kill came off so much like Drew Barrymore Scream intro in it's attempt for shock value but they couldn't stop it there as soon as Kris screams very much like Drews mother does BAM!! Title exactly like Scream. I remember sitting in the theater and saying Scream and people around me laughing. It was just trying to hard and although that final scene was pretty cool you could see it coming a mile away because they had to do it. The remake was shot well visually but i didn't like the dream to real world sequences the weren't seamless you could tell the switch every time. It's not `that the original is untouchable it already set a map that any remake is just going to have to follow unless the original wasn't good of course. This movie does not need a reboot it just needs to be shelved forever. Jackie was really good so if he's not coming back your just continually watering down the character and I probably wouldn't want to watch it.

How was it badly written to you? Do you know that it's actually a true fact, and not just a myth like the whole "we can only use 10% of our brain"? Post-mortem, our brain will still remain active for up to 7 minutes, even after all oxygen and blood has been cut off. I didn't even know about this, until after I saw the movie for the first time, and I just had to look it up to see if it holds water. I did know about the whole "headless chicken" concept though, but I failed to realize that this could potentially also apply to humans, albeit in the exact opposite way of chickens. I actually thought it was brilliant to add that, in the remake of the iconic prison scene from the original, to reflect our ever broader range of science that we know today. And it stayed true to Jackie's version of Freddy. Truly, a menacing psychopath, without remorse or any shed of what could be interpreted as empathy. It dehumanizes him even further, which is almost not possible with a character like Freddy Krueger.

It won't get a reboot. The originals will, with Robert Englund likely reprising his iconic role, so you have nothing to worry about. I was strictly talking about a sequel to Jackie's version, not a reboot. If it would've happened some years ago, thereby not making a potential sequel, a reboot by definition. There's a very clearcut difference between "reboots" and sequels. I was simply expressing my opinion, that I wish things would've happened differently.

I don't quite understand how I might be watering down anything here. You clearly already have your mind set on the matter, nothing I say will change that, nor do I want to.

Thank you! Finally someone gets it!

Not even close to the original. The only saving grace is Hayleys turn as Krueger.

I thought it was better than the original too and JEH gave a very strong performance as Freddy.

I also loved "Freddy VS Jason" I loved the way Freddy was with Jason.. like "Penny for your thoughts" and "Cat got your tongue"

I loved the pinball machine scene where Freddy was messing with Jason, and then "Tilt!" LOL!

I see Robert Englund guest starring in TV shows and his voice still creeps me out. He was in "Charmed", "Bones", and "Criminal Minds" - I just saw the "Criminal Minds" episode again today, and he played a cop and he creeped me out with that voice. LOL He went somewhere with Emily Prentiss and J.J and he was letting them go first and he says "Ladies" with that voice.. it creeped me out.
