Why?

I'm not one to pick on remakes, and indeed, there are several I like, but I watched 10 minutes of this, and I just don't understand what the reason was.

Some remakes work because they are a better production version of a good plot that got short-changed by budget or bad casting choices, or even primitive special effects (on films where SFX are really essential), but every actor in this 2024 version is a huge downgrade over the original film, and in a cast that included Lindsay Lohan, that's saying a lot.

After watching this for a short time, I picked up a new appreciation for the job that Lohan did in the original. I'll go as far as to say that the original may only have worked that well because of the great job by Lohan.

I can't believe I just typed that.

Yeah, Lindsay was perfect for the role. Being a child actor, she said that she never quite felt like she fit in with the other girls when she was at school. And I agree that she did amazing.

It's just too bad that it was all downhill from there.
