I've Two words for this movie

Loved It! Every now and than a movie comes along that you can sink your teeth in to and this was it for me. No living in mansions with cadillac escalades in the driveway or a coke-induced hollywood setting, that I can't relate to. just a good ole' dysfunctional family without the blood and death crap, that make up most of the junk we watch.
Well acted too, I might add!

could not have said it better myself....I too loved this movie! What a total surprise it was!

I'm glad that so many people loved this movie as much as I do.

I laughed so hard my sides ached! Especially the scene at the dinner table when they were all looking at the daughter's bazooms without saying much at all. It was hilarious!!! I couldn't stop laughing. What a fun movie. We need more like this!

I have to agree.

I didn't think the movie would come together at all. But the characters were drawn well, the ending (despite requiring you to take a leap) didn't seem over the top. Dialogue was good. And it was actually quite funny.

I agree with you 100% --- No wonder this film won the "Audience Award" at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival. It all depends on the script, of course, but when you start a movie with Andy Garcia and Julianna Margulies, you have already won half the battle. They have acted once together before. If you have not seen the 2001 film "Man from Elysian Fields," I recommend that you see it. It's an entirely different film, which I liked very much, but you also have the great acting of Andy and Julianna.

Meh.

^ Fair-minded review here, IMO.... nice slate of DVD extras at least, it sounds like.

Agreed! I loved this movie way more than I thought I would, and I thought I would really like it. I wish movies like this would come around more often, and get the recognition it deserves. I honestly found this so much funnier and better than 95% of the "comedies" at the box office these days.

I only do it with superheroes.

I saw this last night and really enjoyed it.

Glad to find so many folks who feel as I do about this little movie (did it even get any kind of theatrical release? I just happened upon it at the library and gave it a try). Besides excellent actors playing well drawn characters in a funny, touching, somewhat fantastical story, I found it to be beautiful to look at. Of course I immediately thought how much I'd like to visit City Island next time I'm visiting NYC (though they say in the audio commentary that one can't get there with public transit). I will be keeping an eye out for the actors who were new to me in this, especially Ezra Miller. I liked that they had a Brit actress playing a New York stater pretending to be Brit. I like that one man was the writer, director and co-producer, and I'll also look for movies he's worked on. Bravo.

Multiplex: 100+ shows a day, NONE worth watching. John Sayles' latest: NO distribution. SAD.

Saw this film a couple of years ago, and once again last night. I forgot what a great little film it is; I absolutely LOVED seeing it again!! I needed a good laugh and this one had me laughing a lot! All the actors are top notch, great writing, directing, story-line. It was perfect for me! Yay!!!!!

I think of this film as the kid that would result if "Moonstruck" married "American Beauty." I don't mean this to be insulting in any way, but the dysfunctional family with all the little secrets patterns after "American Beauty," and the ending, with all the various stories and subplots coming together in a rush is very much reminiscent of the kitchen scene in "Moonstruck" to me. Excellent film, every bit as good as the two I mention and I love this film. One of my absolute favorites, and one that will be remembered for a very long time IMHO.
