TIRED OF PLAGIARISM IN BOLLYWOOD

Ghanjini (Mr. Aamir’s) is the remake of Tamil Ghajini.. n WHICH in turn originally is a great (only in similarities ..not greatness) copy of MEMENTO Aint lookin fwd to Ghanjini at all.. with SONGS all along it.. LOVE songs!! WTF.. why does Bollywood hv to screw up with Classics from Hollywood n Chinese, Korean n Japanese cinema??? Cant they b creative on their own a lil more.. n on top of tat f* stupid directors & SO-CALLED “WRITERS” lik Sanjay Gupta.. claiming Zinda (COpy of classic movie OldBoy),Plan (Copy of Suicide Kings),Musafir(copy of U-Turn)Kaante (copy of Reservoir Dogs/ The Killing/ The Usual Suspects),Jung(copy of Desperate Measures),Khauff (copy of The Juror & Replacement killers)Ram Shastra (copy of Hard To Kill),Aatish (copy of State of Grace/ A Better Tomorrow)—CLAIMS TO BE WRITERS OF ALL THESE MOVIES
I am an Indian..n I pride myself on movies with original scripts in any countries cinema..or atleast I pride myself on Directors who DO accept their movies to be inspired from other’s scripts.. not OWNING or WRITING them on their own . A Grim Darn Shame..

Why oh WHY Lord.. d love songs in a copy of Ghanjini.. uuughh

You have a magnificent grasp of the English language.

how abt ...... you STOP WATCHING IT???? lol.

reply

I agree 110%, you just mentioned a few of them, Speed(Cellular) , God Tussi Great Ho(Bruce Almighty), Chocolate(Usual Suspects), and everything Abbas-Mustan make.
You should see a film called " Tao xue wei long "(1991) with Stephen Chow,
and you'll see where they got the inspiration for Main Hoon Na from.

reply

Well, I think the movie "Tao xue wei long" (1991) was itself inspired by "Kindergarten Cop" (1990) URL: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099938/

reply

In a way, but let me explain, in Tao Xue Wei Long, he joins them as a student not a teacher, and he fall in love with his teacher, and the end scene, where Chow is shot infront of the other kids, and even the way he falls, but then he's not dead after all, and there's whole lot more.

Maybe you're using the term 'plagiarism' a little too freely.

What i hate most is a****** that support plagiarism. If a movie is plagiarized and you're ashamed that by one your favorite artists, don't bother complaining on IMDB Boards coz this is the most innovative reply you're gonna get here: Stop watching it. I mean wtfffff???? Memento is an all-time favorite classic and if someone's screwing it up, we're supposed to endure or stop watching it??? Why can't people have bad things to say about a movie especially when the comments are not forced but with points that make sense.

You're expected to believe Ghajini never copied from Memento because we don't have a brain of our own and Aamir would like us to believe so. I mean barring the facts that both the protagonist suffer from short-term memory loss, both have a wife murdered and intend to avenge her death, both have stuff tattooed on them and carry camera from which they click pictures of people on which they write notes about them so that they can connect, there isn't much of similarity right?? I mean look at the brighter side, the character's names are different and in they time span for which they can remember things is also different (10 min / 15 min)........ How innovative na???

reply

I completely agree , for the sole reason that it cudn't be as gud as the original . Memento is my all time fav. thriller movie . It stood out because of its mind blowing nd original way of story-telling .
There are many people who will be blown away nd laud for Ghajini (even though it woudnt be as good as Memento , i can bet for that). Not any of the people I know , have seen Memento and are goin to watch Ghajini because of Amir Khan's changed look in it . I think that they won't get the movie after watching it nd discard it as being too complicated or just pretend to like it . THese are the same people who make movies like Om Shanti Om and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi superhits !!

I agree with the original title of the thread, for several of the same reasons. What saddens me is that Indian film-making, when it is truly genuine, is great in its own right. I wish filmmakers in India would stop trying to glamorize and westernize every subplot. The simplest stories can make the most spectacular films - without all the major flashiness and camera tricks.

Carpe Diem!

Hollywood ripoffs would be a new movie to the majority of people that do not watch english language movies in India, unfortuantly for us western asian as we are part of 2 cultures we are consciencely aware of the movies that are copied or are insipred by other movies.

reply

wonderful dear
you seems to see them in all

reply

I agree with the person who started the thread.Plagiarism ("Inspiration"...as geniuses like Sanjay Gupta or Vikram Bhatt like to put it )is a major problem today. But as someone pointed out that it has introduced to a majority of Indian audience who don't watch western movies, with a variety of western movie themes and concepts. The Indian audience is bored with the cliche ridden movies and so some of these "borrowed" concepts do provide a refreshing change. And honestly., going purely by the concept of the movie very few of them have original plots ..Hollywood movies included. Some thing or the other is borrowed from some previous movie or a book.

Coming back to "ghajini" let me tell you having seen memento 3 times i can tell you that ,ghajini is not a copy of memento. It only borrows the central premise of the movie. It is like two different people were asked to make a movie on a particular subject and these are their interpretations of that subject. While memento explores a whole new style of story telling ,ghajini makes a perfect Bollywood potboiler out of it.Though the problem of plagiarism is still there i request you to watch ghajini for what it is and not to compare it with memento. You might as well enjoy it !!!

Btw i have not seen the Tamil version of Ghajini. Is it exactly the same as it's hindi version ?

reply

Yeah, it's extremely sad that commercial bollywood has entered such an era of decadence. Now come on guys, we do not belong to a culture completely bereft of original ideas. Each language in our country has got such a treasure trove of out-of-the-box stories. But only if those obnoxious money minded directors and story writers would care.

reply

Well you are right but if you think about it there are many people in india who dont know english that much and for them if bollywood remakes great english movies in hindi then why are you so angry. They are not killing anybody are they. Indian people get happy they get to watch great movies in their own MOTHER TONGUE and if you dont like it lets see you coming up with some new movie ideas. I mean wow you would be such a great writer.. *Bows*

yea rite
