I feel sorry for people who don't get this film

It deserves a much bigger rating than 5.7

Hold on there. The thing to get is how avant-garde it is. It isn't supposed to appeal to your reasonable side. It's a flight into the the unknown and the mysteries that entails. It's soo goood and funny and strange and just a delightful piece of art.

I would watch a little more film before throwing around words like avant-garde and art. The film was competent, well acted and even quite amusing but was by means something new.

Flights into the strange and unknown have been achieved was more masterfully in other films. There is not a single element in this entire film that hasn't been done before. If anything this film is a mosaic of various elements of American indie-comedy and exploitation film and very basic European surrealism, that suffers from over-dilution in the end.

I will say this though, Jared Hess has really cut down on his quirky for the sake of quirkiness style. Which show maturity.

That's a fine response. I think you know more about films than I do, to be for sure. While I've seen just about every film on the AFI top 100 list, it seems, you've seen a lot of European plus American films and I just can't compete with that. Thanks for the intelligent insight!

Got any other movies in mind that would blow me away with surrealism and what not?

I don't think there's any need to feel sorry for anyone who has different tastes. Better to just seek out what you like and let others find their bliss. As for me, I found this a lot of fun though a few steps short of perfection. It's a solid 7/10 in my book.

It's a brilliant film!

This is the only movie I've ever seen that literally had me wondering, half-way through, whether it was the most awful, irredeemabe misfire ever produced or a work of sublime genius. And I can hardly stand to use the phrase "sublime genius" unironically.

I still haven't decided . . I lean towards both being true . . but I do know that any movie that can provoke a reaction like that deserves to be on my DVD shelf.

I agree...I think its a matter of "getting" Jared Hess's style/quirky, dry characters. I personally LOVE Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, so this was more of the same...not quiiiiiite as good as those 2, but entertaining nevertheless. I just wasn't nearly as funny as those 2.

my rating: 6.5/10

I love the flick but I won't deny it's destined for cult status rather than a top 100 IMDB flick and I'm ok with that.
