Interesting however anticlimactic.

The documentary, did showcase the narrative in a unique way. this differed from a feature film as it contained documentary conventions, such as cinematic elements; talking heads and reconstruction footage. It however did contain some fiction film elements and themes, such as the layout of the fractured narrative.

Personally i really enjoyed gaining an understanding of the preparation for the event itself, coming from a background with almost no knowledge on the film subject. I feel like the narrative in that way engaged me and enticed me, making me want to find out more!

i feel like there was a sense of performance in Man on Wire, especially with the documentary stylistic element and conventions, i would suggest it a performative documentary as it was a subjective experience and conveyed an emotional effect on the world, and the people in it.

The filming style of Man on wire was intriguing, as it did comply to common documentary conventions, such as the talking head, archive footage, home movies and reconstructed footage.

"My Story is a Fairy tail" this quote had an inspiration effect on me, and related to the film, the film's theme of defying the odds, overcoming the 'impossible'. The film resembled a fairy tale style, as Philippe discovered his dream and didn't let anything overcome him and prevent him from living his dream, of dancing on top of the world.

The readings of the film, i think are as follows;
Preferred reading, that Philippe overcame the odds and defied the limits of the world, set by society, and the documentary style furthered the themes and messages being conveyed.
Negotiated reading, that Philippe did do something that no-one had ever done, and appreciate the scale of what he and the team achieved, but may not understand the documentary as a whole.
Oppositional reading, that Man on Wire was 'boring' and didn't convey any meaning to the audience.

My personal reading of Man on Wire, is very inline with the Preferred reading, in that I agree that Philippe and the team of people who where involved, defied societies limits, to do something amazing and beautiful. I felt like the documentary style in which it was made, suited the story line well, and was produced in such a way that kept me engaged throughout the film.

I have to say I enjoyed the film a lot. I liked the fact that they cross cutted the events between them successfully breaking into the twin towers to the team planning in France. However, as much as I love the build up I think the actual event where he was walking on the wire could have been edited better.
