Not a remake.

This wasn't a remake. It was kung-fu, not karate. The names were also changed. This was more like a sequel of sorts. Like The Next Karate Kid. That one fit in with the series, but it wasn't a remake. Maybe they kept the same title for marketing, but I'm sure The Kung-Fu kid could have worked.

Sorry to bust your bubble but simply changing the martial art used does not prevent this from being a remake. The entire plot follows the same pattern almost scene for scene.

Very clearly a remake.

What about other franchises? The Sandlot, for example, had a sequel that followed the exact same plot with a few things added in. Home Alone did the same thing with movies 3 through 5.

reply

I am not addressing those films. I am addressing your claim of this film not being a remake because they used Kung Fu instead of Karate.

reply

I'm using those examples to show why I think its not a remake.

reply

OTHER movies have nothing to do with whether THIS movie is a remake or not.

This is a remake of a very popular 80s movie.

"Do you even remember what you came here to find?"

reply

I know about the 80's Karate Kid. I've seen it a bunch of times. Still, I feel this movie being about kung fu, and based in China makes it a reboot. Or something like an unattached sequel.

reply

It's a re-make, hands down. They should have called it "The Kung Fu Kid."

reply

It's a remake douchebag. They should have never touched the 80s original. Leave the 80s classics alone and come up with your own damn stuff.

reply

Reboot and sequel. Both usually suck.

reply

It's a remake. I noticed a lot of similarities. Basically the differences are the names, locations and type of martial arts that have changed, otherwise its technically the same movie.

If they didn't call it a remake people would have claimed it was a rip off, sure they changed some things around but what's the point of remaking a movie if you're gonna do it exactly the same?

Calling it Kung Fu Kid could have been an idea tho

Agreed. Changing the title works. Like how "Can't Buy Me Love" became "Love Don't Cost a Thing."

I do not think you understand the definition of remake.

remake
verb re·make \(ˌ)rē-ˈmāk\
Popularity: Bottom 30% of words
Simple Definition of remake

: to make a new or different version of (something, such as a movie, song, etc.)

: to make (something) into something else

To make a new or different version of something. Changing the names and the fighting style is irrelevant to your argument.

THIS IS SIMPLY GARBAGE, AND ITS NOT A REMAKE IN ANY SENSE! HOLLYWOOD (race) RUINED ANOTHER CLASSIC!
