a lot of thing in thi movie made no sense...

The main that bugged me the most was that the car is clearly shown to have a licence plate and yet the cops don't bother to run a check on the number after accident in the beginning. I mean driver in the SUV was either dead or severely injured and there was nobody in the killer car which should've been enough to assume it waa a hit and run.

The sequence was brief; one of the cops was likely running a check on the number at that very moment. It wasn't necessary for the viewer to get the response from the station that it wasn't legit. All that mattered for the purposes of the movie was that the car ended up at the city lot/garage.
