Why did Amelias Mom have to wait 35 years

If Chris died in 1987 then didn't her future self already know that he wasn't alive and she must've remembered him since they went to the same school and everything, so doesn't that mean that she had to know it was Jamie who won the fight because Chris was already dead. This got me so confused
