How does Lance get laid again?

He's a goofy pudgy nerdlinger looking dude with a superiority complex. Maybe he was filthy rich or something but I just have a hard time believing that guy gets laid.

reply

Confidence. And that he seems likable.

Usually, these movies have a Lance-type character who is as unlucky with women as the main character. They switched it up to be different, I guess.

"C'mon...you're better than that!"

reply

Compare Lance with Randy and Andy, the two guys who hit on every girl within earshot and impress Ian with their confidence [ though we see them repeatedly and harshly rejected]. The secret of their confidence, they claim, is that they are “the shit”.

In the real world, I’d think that Lance’s confidence, charm and PUA “game” would not explain his success with the ladies. He would need a boost from ostentatious wealth and/or fame.

Randy and Andy are playing a numbers game: hit on enough girls and even with low odds, you’ll get lucky.

reply

His character was supposed to be a joke in onto itself. It's a satire toward how women like bad boys or whatever. Look at this odd looking guy get any women he wants with a cocky suave full of himself attitude even though he's not a 10. Hilarious.

reply

Yeah I guess as a satire it kind of works...

The poster who cited Lance's confidence got it. My friend was (still is) very overweight as a teen and got lots of girls---even stole them from the jock competition. Confidence is an aphrodisiac!

reply

I don't care how confident a porky guy is, if he's not hot, I don't want him. Women are visual creatures too, and the whole point of the film is to delude men into believing that they don't even have to try to look good.

I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.

reply

That's not true - many, many women are attracted to intelligence, a sense of humour, charisma, confidence etc.

reply

I am attracted to those things, but not in a chubby, short, weird-looking guy.
Sorry, guy yall can say I'm shallow too, but Im not alone. I pretty sure that half the women in the world would agree with me.

Mr Ryan: Who Was Joan Of Arc?
Ted: Noah's Wife?

reply

That's the bad half.

"Oh, my God. Bear is driving! How can that be?!"

reply

That's the hot half.

Charisma goes a long way.

Wow, I can't believe you just admitted what a shallow ***t you are.

A guy who isn't an Adonis gets girls in a movie for a change, and you find some way of turning it into "deluding men into thinking they don't have to try"?

Here you are admitting you're such a shallow person you wouldn't be with someone purely based on looks and you're trying to take a stand against a message in a film that you totally misinterpreted?

Stupidity truly knows no bounds.

Ye its a play on how girls like the bad guy even if he's really unattractive and looks 12 years old haha

reply

You have a hard time believing it because you don't get laid. Seriously. Only a guy who thinks women are some magical mystery only available to the privileged people of the world would make a post like this.

Go out into the real world where it isn't just the chiseled jocks in high school that get the poontang. Guys that have charisma and know how to talk to girls will go home with the girl every time over the cool, good-looking cat that doesn't know what to say. A guy just like Lance would score with a lot of women just by acting the way he does. Does he seem like the type that will deflate if some jock picks on him or a girl rejects him? No, he'd have a line for that, he's always in charge of the situation, he gets along with dudes which gains their trust.

Read "The Game" by Neil Strauss, you'll find out a lot about social dynamics and social engineering. Lance is just like a lot of guys in that book.

These kinds of posts are made by virgins. I wish you luck losing it.

reply

umm you say she's shallow but didn't Lance only go for hot girls too?

reply

To be fair there were only hot girls in the movie. Also let's look at the girls.

A lifelong friend that is into him because of his confidence and personality

A distressed girl that was very upset about her boyfriend that he treated with compassion

and a sheltered amish girl that was cutting loose

reply

Personality gets you everywhere. I've seen this throughout my life many times, and I'm old. You can be super hot, but if you never talk to anyone or say anythin worth listening to, you never get anywhere. You can be not so hot looking, but saying all the right things will get you everywhere. That's how I view the Lance thing. Ian didn't know how to talk to girls, and Lance knew all the right things to say.

reply

confidence is one thing but he just seemed obnoxious to me just because you are confident doesn't mean you can get all the women in the world. Most girls would laugh at this dork trying to hit on them.

reply

***Spoilers***
Yeah, many women might laugh at him, but look at the women he's attracted, and why. An insincere saleswoman trying to get a sale. A blonde airhead half drunk who later sucks Ian's fingers. A crying woman at a truckstop; he "comforts" her and participates in sex with her which later turns nasty to him -- and dangerous -- she has a jealous boyfriend.
The last girl is the Amish girl, Mary. And here, he's sincere. He really likes her and is also intrigued by the fact that she wasn't going to call him or see him again. And he winds up marrying her. His true attraction to her may be what attracted her to him as well.

reply

I agree with the person above. The girls he got in the movie probly would've went to anyone.

Don't let him gonna! No, don't wanna!

reply

I knew guys growing up who got laid a lit - especially in college - and looked similar to him. Some girls like guys that party and drink their faces off all the time. They find them to be fun.

Confidence and the ability to present yourself is everything.

reply

It was either bad writing or a miscast because Clark Duke being a ladies man was just not believable. I don't care how smooth or confident he was, it looked out of place and completely phony. Kinda ruined the movie for me actually. At least Seth Green came in halfway through and made it somewhat funny. Whether or not the Lance character was satire or not doesn't really matter because it didn't work either way.

reply

I think everyone on here who says that confidence is everything has no idea what they are talking about and possibly living in a fantasy land. Do you seriously think a guy who looks exactly like Michael Moore could ever get a sexy young girl to have sex with him? The only way guys like that can get hot girls is if they pay for it, use drugs or alcohol, are in a band, write sensitive poetry, or on rare occasions use magic...

reply

I've always felt like it was most likely a case of miscasting. I'm sure that in the original script Lance was probably described as someone completely different from Clarke Duke, but then maybe Duke came in and auditioned for the part, and the director got the idea for the "satire" that people have been talking about and cast him. I agree with most people that Clarke Duke in the role was just unrealistic and I couldn't buy into it.

reply

i dont know if it was satire, or what they were trying to prove. honestly i dont knwo what to say, becuase even thou i agree about the confidence and knowing what to say, but based mainly on the way he dressed, girls would at least laugh at him the first time they saw him, even if after trying a lot they would've gone to bed with him, but they way they made it seem in the movie its far-fetched, like they were falling for him by just looking at him.

People like him get can hot girls, it's not strange really. Are you telling me you never seen a hot girl dating a obese nerd?

I mean, my friend is not good looking, he is fat and looks kinda like a pig but his GF is so *beep* hot, she is atleast a 8. But I get it, he got a great personality and he's funny etc.

reply

The lance character was meant as a walking caricature of the nonsensical " girls like bad boys" cliche. The movie was making a joke. If you think positive, do good things, and be genuine, you'll meet a great girl. Nice guys don't finish last. Any girl who prefers an ahole is just unhappy and who wants a wacko that? Most girls like that don't have the first clue what they want. My wife is the best. I love her more than anything and she loves that I adore her. She loves me as well. To get a girl be a decent person and the right ones will appear. People need to lose the " nice guys finish last" loser mentality. It's utter nonsense. The people who believe it are the ones who finish last.

reply

confidence and negging work wonders.

reply

It was played for humor. A good-looking guy like Ian is a virgin whereas Lance gets laid constantly is a pretty laughable idea.
