Julie's Husband was just. . . gross

Not only was he annoying as all Hell, but every time he made any sound with his mouth, I wanted to be sick.

I mean, he chewed and slurped and crunched so loudly. . . and just jammed food in his mouth. . . and talked with his mouth full. . . chewed with his mouth open. . . and even when he kissed Julie, he made the nastiest sounds.

I understand we're supposed to get that Julie's food was good and all, but no need to be disgusting about it.

I gave her my heart . . . and she gave me a pen.

Hmm, interesting. I thought he was sexy. Physically and in the way he acted so lovingly toward Julie.

Oh well, to each his own!

Yeah it made me sick when he ate. And I kind of really wanted to throw up!

reply

I though he was hot in a sort of cro-magnon way.

Okay so this reply is a bit late but I just re watched this movie last night and ugh! This ALWAYS bothered me about the movie! I haven't read through all the replies yet but did anyone else find it hilarious that Amy Adams mentioned on the commentary portion that she liked Chris Messina's (Eric) character because he showed that he enjoyed the food without being "grotesque" about it. I beg to differ. Chomp, slurp, drool, GROSS!

Excellent movie though. :-)

I kind of like it when guys make noises when they eat something delicious, that sort of animalistic eating and moaning...it kind of reminds me of y'know ;)

If you were seriously bothered by this, you all MIGHT have Misophonia.

I thought his low point was when he dove on that freshly made ganache like a starving peasant. If I was her I would have given him a facial with the rest of it.
That being said, he had my sympathy. That was one whiny little harpy he was married to.

They cleared out all the previous threads on this board. But there used to be multiple threads - including 2 very long ones - devoted to Chris Messina's eating in this movie.

Yeah, I know he was directed to eat that way. Shoving food into his face, chewing open-mouthed, moaning ... It doesn't matter. I witnessed those disgusting eating acts on the big screen, and I can never un-see them. Every time I see Chris Messina, I think "Oh my god, it's that disgusting guy ...."

Some people simply aren't bothered by gross eating habits. Other people find them extremely disturbing.

When I see him in this I am reminded of the Cafeteria Scene in Animal House with John Belushi where Otter tells the frat jocks to just make sure to keep their hands and feet away from his mouth. I expected Chris Messina to just keep vacuuming up any non-food items once he had finished with the edibles.

I thought I would add a little bit about the importance of manners. I don't think good manners are natural. They need to be practiced. But once you have practiced them they become second nature. Time will come when you will need them and ,if you have developed them, they are at your service.
