Why was this movie panned???

Beautiful film....subtle, sophisticated, moving and captivating.

Why was this overlooked at the oscars??? Robin and blake are superb and every character in the film is convincing and natural. Robin should have been nominated for an oscar.

Can someone please explain to me why this was critisized and panned by critics and audiences alike??

I hope more films are made like this

thanks for reading :)

I agree. This movie won NOTHING at all. I don't see an Oscar for any of the performances but Robin, Maria Bello and Winona gave amazing performances that should have at least gotten consideration at the Golden Globes.

somebody wrote this on another thread "you need a strong studio to back you". I agree, it is a Game of Power going on, all these Oscar and Golden Globes and the like.

Well, you see, the thing is... people are idiots. So, you know, that's it.

Typical idiots of the Academy. This was a very, very good film....I enjoyed it so much. It doesn't surprise me at all that it didn't receive any attention...the crap they're honoring through nominations and awards is unbelievable...Sandra Bullock and "Blindside" sucked...Lifetime movies are better than that piece of pulp was.

A film doesn't have to be nominated for an Academy Award for it to be good or great. Pippa Lee is a perfect example. A really good film with exceptional writing. A lot of experiences showing the dark side as well as the bright--Pippa is no different then many of us, having lived a previous life less ordinary. She is a survivor. In the end, she has survived far worse travails then a husband that is cheating on her--the signs were there, or so it would seem by her ability to literally run away emotionally, physically and spiritually. Her defense was simply to not be there anymore, just like she should couldn't be there anymore for her mother; the same would happen with her husband. I love you. You love me, but drugs or other women separate you from me, so to hell with you, I'm going to live; survive.

A great movie!

Way to go Rebecca! Talent doesn't fall far from the tree!

Well said, everyone. I really liked this film more than I imagined I would based on ratings. My husband was out of town and I thought this would be a good woman's movie. I was right! Perhaps this film is meant for women of a certain age - empty nesters with adult children. I thought Robin was great, and I didn't expect too much, but was greatly surprised.

Because it wasn't actually sophisticated. It was like watching an autistic paint. Good acting, but it's difficult to nominate an actress for an oscar in an otherwise *beep* film.

Well I completely agree, but I'd never even heard of this movie before I stumbled on it at Blockbuster the other night. I grabbed it because I had several free movie coupons that were expiring that day, and it came down to a choice between this one, and one other. I chose this one, but wasn't that excited about it. The back of the movie didn't really sound that great, and the movie didn't quite follow any of the lines I thought it would based on what I read on the back. This movie was MUCH better than I had anticipated. It was unique and interesting, and I really enjoyed it. I also thought the acting was superb. Perhaps just not enough people saw it or gave it a chance, or it would have been nominated.

The acting was good, but the film in itself was not particularly special.
