Didn't understand the DAD's porno-addict character???

I liked the film everything about it EXCEPT the dad character, its a shame cos i thought he was a funny guy a lot of the time, its just the whole sexual, watching porn while eating, and making other family members masturbate thing! What???!!
i can only think they put that in as an excuse to add sex to the equation to make it more EDGY? OR SHOCKING? Didnt make sense to me. Other people I spoke to at Frightfest were lost with the Dad character too it seemed like a shame to ruin it with him being a porn and sex addict..? If he himself had sexual 'problems' with getting turned on, that would have been ace, more real/ disturbing.

I dont know, anyway the sex thing ruined what could have been a great film, in fact there is still time, maybe the filmmaker could still remove those 2 scenes (you know the ones) and you've got a great film?!!!

This film was BASED ON REAL EVENTS.

The stuff in this film ACTUALLY HAPPENED.

So to call it torture porn/predictable is laughable when serial killers Fred and Rose West actually did this to their own children and their many young female victims!

A British Hostel? Read a book before you make such cop-out reviews on films you don't understand!

If the film is based on real events, it DOESN'T MEEN THAT I ACTUALLY HAPPENED!!!
if IT'S NOT a DOCUMENTARY or a BIOGRAPHY, but ONLY BASED ON, then the stuff in the movie DOESN'T HAVE TO BE REAL!!!!

Not quite..this film was *inspired by* Fred and Rose West not *based on* them. That's not quite the same thing..in the same way Norman Bates and Buffalo Bill were *inspired by* Ed Gein.

Well I certainly hope that Fred and Rose West's sexual activities actually happened, otherwise this director/writer is a seriously sick man to come up with things like this.

NO IT DIDN'T!! The characters of Mum and Dad were inspired by the exploits of Fred and Rose West, yes..I'll give you that. Fred and Rose West did some serious *beep* up sh!t, not only to their own children but to young girls they abducted. But to say that what happened in the film really happened is simply not true.

You need to stop going around saying this lol. As it is completely untrue!
The characters in this film were loosely based on Fred n Rose West but the events that happen in this horror film are nowhere near the truth of what actually happened. I'm sure it has been pointed out already, but it would seem you are the one who doesn't understand the film.

The Dad was trying to mould the son in his own image and to follow in his footsteps it was a twisted mirror image on how fathers like thier sons to be like them or live out thier dreams and ambitions thorugh them.

Normal Dads would take thier sons to football and shout at the from the sidelines for missing a goal or maybe some fathers would set up thier sons to take over a small family business. The Dad went to great effort to not only use his son as a subserveant skivve but to be exposed and included in most of the Dads most digusting exploits.

The masturbation scene was simply the Dad trying to get the son to get off on the same perverted things that he did he probably brought the son the stack of porn mags for Christmas too.

This type of grooming can be seen from the Mum to the daughter but in a more chilling turn of events the Daughter seem to want to become like the Mum and as the film progressed we see a lot of the Mums character traits come out in the Daughter.

I think people go there because sex is such an unessicarily uncomfortable thing for people. Same reason people freak out over rape scenes and have no problem with extremely graphic depictions of murder.

Like I said in another post, it seems like the writer had some shocking ideas for scenes and pieced together a plot to make them fit.

It was an average capitivity story with a few shocking scenes to me.

Not a bad little film all in all. The sexual undercurrent was vital to it though as it was obviously influenced by cases like The Cromwell Road murders. How strange and oddly prudish that the OP would enjoy the film more without the sex scenes. I'd recommend watching Martyrs instead if you are uncomfortable with scenes of a sexual nature.

Question: Did you ever hurt yourself to make somebody sorry?

I really enjoyed this one. I thought all of the actors did a great job and Dad did as well. He seemed believable to me. As far as the porno thing goes I think it was just supposed to show that he was a sexual deviant and had many weird fetishes. And all of the folks need to stop comparing this to Hostel

Personally, if the sex was removed from this movie, I would not find it believable that a man that kidnaps and torchers young girls had no interest in even regular sex, let alone not have a fixation on pornography or a few odd fetishes. Compared to some other odd things I have seen serial killer type characters like Dad do in other movies, he's not really that abnormal.

Weighing in a little late but I thought it was an excellent movie and the "dad" was perfect imho. Serious, dangerous psychopaths often times are extremely deviant sexual predators (Dahmer, Bundy, Gacy, Berkowitz, Buono & Bianchi, Ramirez, etc.), so the dad's sexual perversion is quite in order for a murdering, cannibalistic abomination.

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

I thought that possibly he didn't have a penis, and that was why he was so obsessed with it

We never actually see him masturbating from the front (luckily) and when he came into the new 'daughter's' bed to have his way with her, he was dressed up as a woman

I think he had been in an accident or perhaps born without a genitalia had testicualar cancer and had to cut it off or Something, and that messed him up something fierce, and that's why dad and mum never had any children of their own (they claim that one was their blood daughter but that could have been lies or he had a functioning penis at that time)

The mother said frequently not to do this or that cause that would get dad excited, and his excitement led to violence as he could not get off on sex

Just a theory but that's what I thought...

I missed that, I blame my glasses...

It COULD be that he attempted at super gluing the organ where his penis was suppose to be but he regreted doing that so what we saw that looked like him jacking into it was in fact him trying to pull it off him... And what looked like semen was actually superglue

So the theory is still very much alive!
