Love can only exist with God? Give me a break.

I like almost any movie with Kirk Cameron but I felt he was breaking his back for a bitch who didn't seem to give a rat's ass about what he was going through... it's a dog eat dog world out there- he was a HERO outside of his marriage- that's important... real important, ... still, atheists/agnostics and disbelievers can form a fine marriage WITHOUT relying on jesus christ and god. What a horrible movie.

I consider myself to be a Christian, though I'm also smart enough to believe in science and open minded enough to respect others beliefs.

This being said I am sick and tired of other Christians using God as an end all answer or response. God is not a miracle pill. You can't just plop him into every argument and think it justifies what you say or your point of view. Nor is HE a dart to be thrown like a dagger.

Use your intellect, not the bible to make a point. You're giving the rest of us a bad name! And for crying out loud go back to school and understand the religion and science can both exist ugh!

Ha! Thank you. I just don't feel "Because God says so" is a valid argument. Even in biblical discussions there needs to be more than that.

As for the original post I've known Athiests who've had very loving relationships. Hell I even dated two people who didn't believe in God, and while there were other issues love wasn't one of them.

Exactly. The ultimate problem with the movie is that it tries to convince us that the Holts' marriage is failing because Caleb has yet to accept God (what about Catherine), well there's also the whole "being an ass towards her" thing, but mostly the former. In reality, this is ludicrous, because even common freaking sense would tell you that marriages go sour because of personal differences (not just religious, mind you; hell, sometimes religious differences may not exist in the marriage).

"No more just regurgitating what some atheist or liberal professor had told me."

Yet you will accept the regurgitated words of someone less qualified? that says a lot. Your use of the word liberal also indicates your right-wing bigotry.

It's called indoctrination.

"The fact that you troll Christian message boards speaks volumes of your character."

You are very quick to make assumptions, but as a wise man said, never assume anything except the occasional air of intelligence.

"You are easily smarter than God or anyone that believes in God. "

You love your straw men don't you?

"You nor this guy are educated enough to speak of Christianity. "

Smarter than you. It's my job, not a hobby for sheep to adopt because they can't think for themselves.

"Because all liberals seem to spew the same garbage as you do. "

There you go again with your unfounded generalizations and petty slurs. Your faith must be extremely fragile...but maybe you should learn what liberal actually means.

"And indoctrinated? What would you call yourself? "

Someone who can think for himself.

"The guy that just regurgitated something he heard from an atheist professor?"

Ahh, yet more fantasies from your deluded mind. Ever thought about joining the real world sometime?

"I choose to put mine in God. "

No, you put yours in a heavily edited book, with no supportive evidence and a religion with a long history of violence, genocide, bigotry and intolerance. A trait you demonstrate so succinctly.

"I have grown tired of arguing with someone who trolls Christian message boards 24/7 "

Ahhh, yet another dishonest assumption. If you understood your Bible you wouldn't demonstrate such anti-Christian hypocrisy.

"The fact that you are here shows the level of insecurity in your heart and life. "

You really can't cope with facts can you?

Come back when you've had an education, imbecile.

Wow! It doesn't really amaze me that people like you are on here commenting and blasting your beliefs on others that may have similar beliefs that movie portrays. What does surprise me is that you keep posting and blasting more and more people on here that do believe in God, which is just as bad than someone who is christian and doesn't agree w/you. Have you stopped to think that maybe your more of an instigator and enjoy pushing the buttons of people who don't have your beliefs?? I am a christian and believe in God and that this world was not just formed from a stupid "Big Bang Theory" but even though I may disagree w/you on every post you have made I'm not going to bash you for believing what you wanna believe, but I do feel sad that you feel that your need for being on here and trying to rip apart other peoples beliefs to try and get them to see yours is selfish and disrespectful. Its one thing to come on here and post once or twice about something you disagree with, but to keep doing it and keep trying to bring others down for their beliefs is wrong. It was Dave Mustaine of Megadeth who is a born again christian I might add said it best and I quote his exact words here "Looking up at the cross, I said six simple words, ‘What have I got to lose?’ Afterwards, my whole life has changed. It’s been hard, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. Rather than go my whole life believing that there is a God and find out there isn't, than live my whole life thinking there isn't a God and then find out, when I die, that there is." As most fans of metal and Megadeth know Dave has been sober and drug free for over a decade and his life has been better. I encourage to keep your mind open that there is a God and that one day there will be a judgement day for all of us in front of him and then he will decide which ones go into heaven and the ones who will be punished by sending them to hell, that maybe you might realize that he is real and can keep yourself from not suffering an horrible eternity. You are entitled to your own beliefs and I am deeply saddened that you don't believe and I shall pray for you that you may one day come to know God, but I do wish you peace and happiness no matter what path you choose for the rest of your life. I do that for the most part alot of people on here try to push their beliefs on others but bashing each other will not make anything happen other than more hatefulness and bitterness back and forth to each other. People will believe what they want and have that choice so let's just all have and show some respect to other fellow people on here, there is no need to keep the angry bickering going on.

If ypu believe hat you're clearly not paying attention.

"you feel that your need for being on here and trying to rip apart other peoples beliefs to try and get them to see yours is selfish and disrespectful. "

See above. I will however, attack ignorance and stupidity. People who attempt to spread their dishonest agenda deserves to be be criticized. When I see propaganda of this sort I will rail against it.

HORRID HORRID movie...my parents were married for 36 years before my father succumbed to lung cancer...and WITHOUT GOD! This movie is full of lies and half truths.

I will never EVER believe that "If you have Lust in your heart you are a fornicator" and if you have hate "you are a murderer" BULL *beep* *beep* I can think a guy is good looking without going to bed with him...that does NOT make me a fornicator. If I shoot someone with a gun or stab them with a knife, then yes that makes me a murderer. But NOT the thought of hating them.

Talk about a pious piece of crap. I know...I used to be a Christian before suffering spiritual abuse at the hands of the alleged "elders" of the group who thought it was their divine right to challenge a college female going out and having fun on a Friday night after a week of classes, instead of being at a Bible Study with them and all the other young married couples who were starting to have kids and had nothing better to do that sit around and listen to how your spirituality was related to how many times you went to their Bible Studies/Church meetings/Prayer groups etc.

Know this...if you throw your life away being a Christian it means you will suffer like crazy. The church will demand all your disposable income "if you really love God" then open your wallets and show us...use all your free time to volunteer at *beep* you hate...and want you to use your talents for free to help them out..."because it is the Christian thing to do/it's what God wants" *beep*

IMO, God and the Church do more damage than they claim to repair. They need to stop making *beep* movies like this and GET REAL!

This movie is SUCH a pack of lies. Caleb and Catherine should have gotten divorced and let that be the end of it.

Yes, I AM Psychotic and thank you for noticing!

reply

I'm sorry that you've had horrible experiences with churches and Christians. But I don't think Caleb and Catherine should have gotten a divorce. The movie portrays both unhappy at the start of the film, and the wreckage of divorce would only have made that unhappiness worse.

As for the Christian bias of the film, I would only say that not all Christians are like the ones you knew.

Why would he want to criticize someone that agrees with him? Are you listening to yourself? Of course he's not criticizing the people that are saying the same things he is.

And saying that he's a troll just because he has different views from yours... yeah no. You just lacked an argument and avoided arguing in a losing argument.

You kind-of hit a hypocritical mark there. You say that athiests can form a marriage without God? WHO deemed marriage good? God. So, if this is something that God created, WHY on Earth would an athiest partake in it? If an athiest doesn't believe in God, he/she cannot support things that God has deemed good, such as marriage. Otherwise, that person is a hypocrite.

"You say that athiests can form a marriage without God? WHO deemed marriage good? God."

No, it is a social contract and was around long before the Bible.

"If an athiest doesn't believe in God, he/she cannot support things that God has deemed good, such as marriage"

This is such a stupid claim. Goodness doesn't come from god, nor does marriage. They are human traits.

Marriage wasn't created by god, if there is one...

Also, the god of the Bible went so far as to claim light and the earth itself being "good" so according to your logic I guess atheists should just find another planet to live on...

I haven't read all the posts (69) but the way I look at this movie is that it doesn't matter if you agree with the religious ideology of the film. The movie makes many salient points about what truly makes a relationship work or fail whether you believe in a God or not. It's a good movie.

My wife and I are both Lutheran, which means we're not exactly emotional in our faith. We can be downright boring at times. But our faith in God is the primary part of our marriage. We try (not always successfully) to put God first in our marriage. When we try to put God first in our marriage, it's easier to love each other more and more. No, you don't have to have God to have a happy marriage, but it sure helps, at least for us and for many. You'd be surprised at what faith can do.
