The girl is an idiot. couldn't stand watching her.

i think the movie was shot well, but i just couldn't stand the girl. her character does not make much sense. OR, she's just really retarded.

okay, giving him some food is understandable; after all, el casper killed the gang leader and saved her. but why the *beep* would you leave the train, do you not care about the people that helped you all along the way - AKA YOUR FATHER???? moreover, if she had a brain, she'd know that she is absolutely of no help to the guy.

the main character was way too unrealistic and it spoiled the movie, IMO.

I thought it was realistic. Her character was naive, impulsive and a bit flighty, fairly typical behaviour for a teenage girl wouldn't you think? Obviously not how everyone would react to that situation, but by no means unrealistic or unbelievable.

1. She was young, she looked around 15 or 16. 2. She was not close with her father and harbored resentment towards him for being absent. 3. She never wanted to take that long and dangerous journey to live with her father's "other family" in another country. 4. Her father appeared impotent in protecting her from Lil Mago's attempted sexual assault. 5. Willy rescued her from Lil Mago and knew the travel route well so she felt safe and protected with him and he was definitely the alpha male of all the men on the train. 6. Sarya obviously was attracted to and eventually infatuated with Willy. AND 7. She didn't really respect her father's authority and when he "ordered" her to stay away from Willy almost guaranteed that she would want him even more--if you know teenagers, you can relate.

So, Sarya is not an unrealistic or even weak female character--after all, she was the only one who successfully reached their destination. Unfortunately, Martha Marlene, Willy's girlfriend was also believable. I have had a fair share of girlfriends that have caused a scene from jealousy or (more often) I really pissed them off. I actually had a jealous (ex-)girlfriend force herself into a friend's bachelor party because she was suspicious that I may be with a stripper (smh). Thankfully, none of my "drama" situations ended as tragically as this scenario.

It was hilarious that she though he saved her life, when he really just wanted to kill Tattoo-face, but the movie would have been a lot better if she was killed, or better yet, given to that little kid to celebrate his 1st real kill

Her actions were dumb, but not unrealistic at all. It's obviously that she lived in poverty and ignorance and didn't have the best example from her parents, an illegal trip to the US reflects so.

The psychic told her that she would make it to the US with the help of the devil, so she probably believed Casper was the one to take her there. Uneducated people tend to believe more in saints, psychics and similar stuff.

It was clear from the first scene that showed her and her dad together, that they hadn't seen each other in a very long time, which means she probably didn't have a paternal figure around. Casper was the closest thing to it when he saved her from being raped. She was infatuated by him because he appeared to her as everything her father wasn't.

What many don't understand is that gang members and drug lords are seen by many women in her condition as a status/authority symbol. They're able to give them the protection no one else around them is able to give. A woman who lives in a good place, with her family's supprort and a bright future ahead of her sees bad boys as an obstacle to an even better life, but when you have no prospect and live in a place filled with murders and crime, the only way to survive might seem to get on the side of the devil.

1.He already saved her from a horror, and at his own considerable risk and expense.
2. He's some sort of rock of some decency and form of honesty and courage.
Where do you get them? They're not easy to find here, let alone where they are.
There is also an impression of strength. He was bad enough to do that guy, in the only kind of way that he could get got.

2.she fell for him.

although he pointedly promises her nothing but probable blood , sweat, and tears..that's part of his upside. And although he also discourages her, if he wanted to be rid of her 100%, he could have denied her and blown her off decisively if he really wanted to.

3. What else does she really have to give up that is really all that great? How many much better offers?

Meanwhile, I can see that you are a true romantic. Although I probably agree with the part about taking psychics seriously.
But who knows, if all our psychics that I've seen are obvious fakes, maybe in places like that, the psychics occasionally make a connection.

She was a peasant without the benefit of much education or cultural sophistication and she was a teenager, apparently smitten with the murderous little cockroach who saved her from the bigger murderous cockroach.

If she had behaved any other way, that would have been a surprise.
