A really great Netflix series - some thoughts - some spoilers

Netflix had some good productions in their beginnings. Lately there is a lot of stuff on it, that's not really enjoyable quality-wise. Some good stuff is still there, but there's just too much rubbish.

Tuned in this mini-series just by browsing around. Only knew that Zoe Saldana is in it, it's about a romance with a chef (so there's cooking involved, which is great) and it's partly set in Italy, which we love. Enough to watch the first episode.

And what a wonderful surprise this series was. Setting, camera, directing, editing. All great quality. You really can feel Italy here. It's beautifully shot.

Story-wise it follows a true story based on Tembi Lockes life. She was also one of the producers.
And that said it's really an emotional rollercoaster. How they met, how it went after moving to the US and all the sadness that came after. And hope in the end and a new start/beginning.

This series is really moving. And that's also thank to an amazing cast. From the major characters to the minor roles. All is acted superb. The sicilian parents are really a great casting choice. Linos Dad acted so well and that with few words, but his expressions throughout the series needed no explanation. Amys parents were also great to watch. Keith David is just a great actor. Always a joy to watch him. A real powerhouse.

It was refreshing not to watch something with overdrawn characters. Both the Italian AND the american family are well written, no unecessary clichés. Both felt real and down-to earth. It was really nice to see that.

And in the end instead of showing an all-happy ending with a new life and a new success back in LA it ended peacefully, calm and slow. But with a new spark of life and hope. And a future. Bot nothing overly cheesy or too Hollywood.

Really enjoyed it. And proves that Netflix still gets it right once in a while. More of this quality please.
