I really enjoyed this movie... the slow, atmospheric pacing... the way that it crept up under your skin rather than just having cheap scares. Anyway, I'm looking for more intelligent horror films like this. (Horror, in my mind, is a completely different genre than slasher.) I just watched The Objective and enjoyed it. I've seen Session 9. Also I loved Silent Hill, which had that same growing-dread feeling. So what do you recommend?

None of these films (@bernard-maximillian) are even on the same planet in terms of feel, atmosphere and period piece directorial skill.
The only films close or on the same plane are the aforementioned Vahalla Rising, The VVitch, Hard To be a God, A Field in England.
As soon are you started listing, starting at Sinister (?), it went downhill from there. Not saying The Shining or TCM are not amazing, but you're way off the mark.
I think 'Angel Heart' is very close in mood and regional fleur to Sauna. Why 'Antichrist' should be excluded?
