what movies do the haters like?

I see threads where people talk about how this movie is the decline of America and blah blah blah. But I'm just curious, what movies do you haters enjoy? What would you see in theaters instead? Or what are your favorite comedies? I'm not saying that I will insult them, I'm just genuinely curious.

reply

I'm not really a "hater," since I've never seen a Jackass movie, but some movies I'd consider the funniest would be:

City Lights
Modern Times
Annie Hall
Airplane!
Blazing Saddles
It Happened One Night
The Apartment
In the Loop
Mon Oncle

I'm afraid things like this just don't do it for me (I have seen the trailers and parts of the TV show. Low-brow humor at its worst).

reply

Most of these movies are boring as *beep*...

reply

LOL, sucks for you then. I wouldn't want to know what you consider exciting...

For the third time, I'm 19. But if liking quality films makes me older, then I'd be glad to be 80.

reply

You were 19? That's your problem then. I noticed your extremely pretentious list and wondered what the hell was wrong with you, but your age is what's wrong. At 19 I was a pretentious dickhead too. I couldn't let myself enjoy simpler movies because, oh no, I liked to feel intellectual and sh**. It wasn't until my mid-20s that I realized that I can enjoy other films besides what the critics and pretentious a*holes like.

reply

All of these are good movies while not all laugh out loud funny (the apartment) but wut ru 70 years old , and in the loop is wutever. I mean there is funny movies made you know that arent wicked old

reply

I'm 19, and I agree with you that there are funny movies that aren't "wicked old." In the Loop is one of them, and I'm also very fond of Little Miss Sunshine, A Serious Man, Juno, Burn After Reading, Austin Powers, Up in the Air, and Sideways. But most of the best ones, for me, are the ones from many decades ago.

reply

[deleted]

Lol the first reply is awesome, you mention Blazing Saddles which is full of racism and the word *beep* and you don't call it low brow humor

reply

My favorite comedies include

World's Greatest Dad
GhostBusters
Idiocracy
Modern Times
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Idle Hands (I know, I know...)
Big Nothing
The Gold Rush
Annie Hall
Gremlins

And this year, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and Kick-Ass are part of my favorites.

I think the problem most people have with this movie is that only "stupid" movies like this one make 50 mill in a weekend.

I haven't seen this yet I imagine I would appreciate it (not love it, never been a big fan of jackass), for example I think that Hot Rod is one of the funniest movies ever. But as I wrote, the problem is that movies like Life Aquatic would never make that kind of money.

that to me is a shame, it bothers me that only stupid rom-coms and movies like this bring in so much money. because that means studios pump out movies with Kahterine Hiegl or whoever.

we rarely see a quality comedy be a hit

reply

People that trash this like movies with plots, actors, etc
This isn't an actual movie There is no plot, it is an extended version of the show, which people can see online and on tv for FREE. I get the appeal. I know it has a fanbase. But the 50 million opening, theaters being sold out, that seems crazy. If they put girls gone wild 3d in the movies would that make fifty million?

reply

First off, your response was incredibly smug, and made you sound like a douche. We all like films with a plot and actors. I'm pretty sure "plot" and "actors" is the standard criteria for films. So take your holier-than-thou attitude and shove it up your ass.

Second, a girls gone wild 3D movie is probably one of the best ideas I've ever heard! Any studio smart enough to pick that one up would make billions!

it's a pornography store. i was buying pornography.

reply

well, what about the first films ever made? They didn't have actors or plots?

reply

Sorry if I came off as smug. To apologize I will string together a series of popular viral videos from online that people can watch for free and call it a "movie". The Jackass fans will line up like zombies pay $12 and I will get rich. Hahaha. I bet the producers of jackass said something like that.

Anyone who would pay to see a girls gone movie in theatres should know they just came out with these movies were women have sex with guys or girls and you can watch them for free online.

reply

Well douche that's the thing...you go to see the TV characters that fans have loved for 11 years now. Haven't you ever seen a movie because you liked a specific actor or director? You're an idiot...and you really do need to shove the smugness up your ass.

reply

I took the smugness out of my ass when Jackass broke box office records, I will now videotape myself putting it back in, sell it to the Jackass producers and millions will pay $15 to watch it in the theatre in Jackass 3.5 next year. Hope you bought your advance tickets to Jersey Shore 3d, Dancing with the Stars 3d and every other tv show they are now going to put in the theaters.

reply

Zombies don't get into lines! They have neither the dexterity nor mental capacity to do so. ...Lines...tsk, tsk.

Remember, you are fighting for this woman's honor, which is probably more than she ever did.

movies with plots and actors.... You mean like: Meet the Spartans, Paul Blart Mall Cop, You Again, Life As We Know It, The Awful Truth, Meet Dave, Imagine That, and Grown Ups?

reply

Big Lebowski is great and i don't think it made 50 mil the whole time it was in theatre.
Meet the spartans, epic movie etc are stupid and they are made to reach the same audience that loves Jackass. But none of those movies opened at $50 million with a 7.5 rating on imdb. They get low ratings because the jokes are gross or stupid or just unfunny. In one of those movies a character throws up, it is just dumb or gross, but if they throw up in Jackass it is hilarious? because it's real? Take out the bad story from Paul blart etc, leave in the gross out jokes and physical humor and now it is a comedic masterpeice?

reply

You are taking the idea of a "movie" and putting it in a box and completely limiting it. Movies don't need plots just as they don't need color or dialogue.

reply

Gcwv, I'm all for innovation and unconventional films, but Jackass is a tv show being shown on a big screen. If they took two episodes of America's funniest home videos and put it in the theaters does that make it a movie? If a constipated man tapes him self for an hour and a half trying to poop is that a film?

reply

<<<f they took two episodes of America's funniest home videos and put it in the <<<theaters does that make it a movie?

I'm also a hater of the Jackass movies. But

In the past, some episodes of tv shows were strung together and called a movie and played theatrically.

This isn't comprehensive, but

Battlestar Galactica

Superman (1973) starring George Reeves

etcera. (there were many others).

reply

If that's your definition of what a movie is, you very much need to study up on the subject, kid.

You can't title a thread like this and not expect a bunch of people to leave responses of movies that they probably copied and pasted right from the AFI lists or top 250 just to appear more intelligent and holier than thou.

I think the biggest gripe people have with Jackass is not the childish humor, but because there is no real plot. It's a stunt reel. People feel like that is not enough for the price of a movie ticket, and don't see it. They don't necessarily hate the Jackass franchise.

If they were to add some sort of plot or something like different teams facing off one another trying to top each other's pranks and stunts, maybe lead down a few small gags to one big super climax then it would be more acceptable to people who like a story.

reply

[deleted]

But a plot or overall structure would seem forced and unnecessary, and could only detract from the humour. If it's entertaining, what does it matter whther or not there is a plot? I think people who criticise it for not having a plot are just trying to find a pseudo-objective rationalisation for the fact they are incapable of appreciating the humour or stunts.

The reason for seeing it in the cinema rather than video or TV is that it really benefits from being shown on a big screen in 3D. For most movies the cinema environment or 3D add little, but this movie was specifically designed and shot to benefit from 3D on a large screen.
