'New Year's Day' - Unwatchable

This is the first episode I've seen and I must say it's unwatchable. The film making and editing are HORRIBLE! So much camera movement and quick splicing. It gave me a headache.

I thought music videos were bad but this thing takes the cake!

Trust me, it was one of the *better* episodes. xD

reply

I hear ya. It appeared to have potential. But all that herky-jerky camera work and editing makes me give it thumbs down. It hurt to watch it.

Don't care about the boobs being a female, but you are right, great zombie material. Loved the neck cracks and the romance at the end!

reply

My personal dislike of this ep has nothing to do with the shaky camera work, the ep was just flat-out lame lol.

If you expect the unexpected doesn't the unexpected then become the expected?

reply

have you ever heard of lesbianism? being a woman has no basis on how you feel about boobs.

reply

I've seen New Years Day, Eater and Skin and Bones and New Years Day is the only one that took me three tries to get all the way through. Even having a crazy hot lead with a great voice, it was just too... something. Too rock video, I guess.

Skin and Bones was definitely the best of the ones I've seen.

I thought it was pretty effing good, but then I love zombies AND Steve Niles

'Real vampires DON'T sparkle'

It was just bad and I don't mean that in a good way.

watching it now. pretty much same ol' same ol zombie and that editing IS annoying. pretty lame and dull

reply

well if you've seen any episode of this show, then in the middle of it doesn't mean sh!+. It's all about the twist endings, so don't comment on the boards unless you've seen it all the way through.

The ending makes all the difference in this episode. Otherwise, it is pretty bad until then.

reply

so don't comment on the boards unless you've seen it all the way through
Yes sir! Thank you, sir! I shall follow your commands, sir!

And considering mine was from THREE FRIGGIN' YEARS ago and many of the other posts were negative as well then your comment is even more pointless than it was meaningless. But by all means, enjoy your canceled TV show.

I actually really liked it too!

I've only seen 4 episodes of Fear Itself so far, but this one was my least favorite. I don't think it was bad, just not as good as the others I've seen.

Kill off all my demons and my angels might die too.

reply

that's funny, because I think it's among the best in the 5 I've seen.

1.New year's day
2.spirit box
3.community
4.the sacrifice
5.in sickness and in health (ending made no sense)

I thought the same thing when I watched it. That herky jerky camera work, I almost couldn't get through it. I don't know why anyone thinks that's a good idea. I liked the idea that she's a zombie and doesn't know it, but that episode was just really hard to watch.

I watched this episode to the point where she followed the old couple into some kind of basement. What happened next?

This is the way that we love,Like it's forever. To live the rest of our life,But not together.

the old guy killed his wife to keep her from reanimating. Then he starts chasing our hero screaming at her saying it's her fault, trying to take her down, but escapes.

Then she finally comes to her crush's apartment, seeing her best friend there, and her best friend screams for the crush, who shoots our hero, and then exclaims she was a zombie since last night. Turns out that after she caught her crush and best friend making out, she went home, and committed suicide, and woke up a zombie.

Then the roommate jumps out of nowhere, and attacks the crush, and then together the roommate and hero hold hands and look at the bestfriend, who is actually a horrible friend who had been messing around with our hero's crush all night long.

So it turns out the hero really was dead the whole time, but thought she was alive and just hungover. When she is shown talking to people or zombies, she must believe she is communicating but is actually groaning like a zombie the whole time. That's why no zombies ever attacked her and the old man blamed her for his wife's death
Instead of just tracking down her crush, she gets to kill him and her best friend with her new boyfriend, her undead roommate. It's a cute love story, really. I think at that point she knew she was a zombie because she wasn't afraid of her roommate anymore.

When the crush (Cory Monteith/Finn of Glee) is dragged into the kitchen by the roommate, I almost expected badass Ashley Fink/Lauren to start whomping on the roommate--but wait! Fink wasn't in the episode, but that's what runs through your head when you have an actor uknown in 2008 now recognizable from a hit show. I did like the "War of the Worlds" homage landscape when Briana Evigan looked outside on the turmoil, though, and the originality of the neck cracking zombies.

I think the director must have won a bet that he could edit in more cuts in a 44-minute show than any of the whole frenetic Bourne trilogy, and that he could do more time shifting in his narrative (though less comprehensible) than Pulp Fiction.

reply

really so horrible! the camera was annoying big time, the story sucked, bad actors, bad edition, i am a big fan of zombie stuff but i must say this was just rubbish.

reply

Where are you guys viewing this after it airs? Is it available on the internet? Also, does anyone know if the episode "Spirit Box" ever aired..about teenage girls and a Ouija board?

reply

I liked the twist with her not knowing she was dead. However my confusion lies in the zombie theory itself, the infected were not caused by her killing herself, correct? I remember hearing about the chemical spill. Ijust want to point out that I had read on another board that they had something to do with each other, that was before I had watched the episode, after watching I don't think they did. They just happen to coincide (sp) with each other? And the twist was, being that she had killed herself, she did not know that she had become an infected/zombie or whatever you want to call it, right?

Oh, Briania however you spell her name, most certainly did have some nice boobs in the episode, sorry, just the guy in me. Love her voice too.
