I am the only ex addict that thinks this show is stupid?

I've been blessed by having a family with enough money to provide me with top notch professional help. 7 times I might add. But I find, in my experience, that The Cleaner is complete nonsense. Drama yes, entertaining maybe, reality? Not even close.

Please comment...

That's very self centered of you. Just because it's not the same as what you know doesn't mean it's not accurate. The sun doesn't rise or set around you.

Couldn’t have been that “top notch” if it took 7 times to work...

To the ex-addict that now works in the field, I totally agree. In fact, I'd go further: IMO, you oughtn't to be allowed to assist in recovery if you haven't 'been there' yourself. I know plenty of junkies (who doesn't these days?) & they all say the same thing: the counsellors who had once been addicts are far superior _in every way_ (& also far less judgemental) than those who've simply learnt the lingo from books.

Also, to the O.P: I don't understand your smugness at leeching cash from family members to go through rehab that many times. Seriously, they need to withhold this funding & let you decide whether you want to quit or not. Right now, you obviously don't. One only quits once; the rest of the time, you're just p1ssing everyone around - including yourself.

i woulda let you die on the streets if it took you more than lets say three times
I dearly hope that you get your just desserts, you immature pr1ck. Karma is a motherfu(ker...

Nothing sets the psych for life like the constant labeling! If you refer to someone who has successfully kicked a habit for say over 20 years as a "recovering addict", what's to say that you are just mentally conditioning people to forever believe that they will never be anything other than addictive personalities and hence not really have a reason to quit. I am just saying.....all this labeling is sorta counter active to the whole healing agenda. Just saying.

The show? Still making up my mind. I do like the starkness though. On a rather dark note though, I'd have liked it to be HBO/Oz in your face. Drunk/stoned/high people do have the most torrid sex......good for tv.....and closet voyeurs :)

7 times? ive seen people like you in my rebab. Only these are old men, 50 yrs old, still trying to kick a habit. Unable to see the life thats in front of them. I have no sympathy for you, If your family had no money would you have gone through the system 7 times or would u be out on the street scoring some smack huh? Your pathetic because you have literally taken advantage of the people who love you, they have lost faith in you and so have you. Why dont you think about them next time you score, or how about when your sitting there thinking about your life maybe youll realize 7 times is 6 times too many.

The best possible thing you can do is to get clean and move the *beep* away from your family. Then atleast if you relapse you only have yourself to blame and fall back on .

i find your question humorous. i was and still am a addict. and always will be an addict. because of of this i will never be an EX-addict. go to some meetings and ask if anyone there is and ex-addict. the only ex-addicts ive been with are in a coffin.its a life long problem that needs life long treatment. i have been in recovery for over 10 years. i was in active addition for over 35 years. ive been in many of the situations that are depicted within the show. yes it is a bit melodramatic at times but it does so yes for rating ,but also to make a point. i, like you was blessed that i had a family that never gave up and provided me with the care and attention i needed.i didnt go to a shrink or a counselor i went threw a treatment center for 2 weeks. then i went to a halfway house. i go to meetings now 3 times a week. its alot cheaper than a shrink or a counselor.i dont know what your addiction was nor do i care. im glad you found a solution to it. but you will never be an ex. if you think your cured your not you still have reservations and are fooling yourself. that monster we call addiction is still out there and hes waiting for you.

I respect your personal battle with addiction, but I completely disagree with what you wrote about the show. The show has two completely different seasons which also explains why it got canned after the 2nd. The first season is an absolute classic and is beautifully written and executed despite the very small budget that they had to work with. 2nd season ... unfortunately a typical A&E show and by the end of it, the show seems like it lost it's soul and the stories are very very hard to believe. The story also becomes very linear and at times even boring. I don't know what happened but it is as if the writers were changed.

But if we talk only about season 1, then I suppose you missed the point that it is based on real cases that did happen and that those are only select cases and you see only glimpses of them. The show is written more or less in the style of a diary if William Banks did keep one and and such I'd say it's very well written.

As to your comment, maybe you need to watch a bit more carefully, there is a constant mention of the 25% success rate and yet you don't really see much of the failure in the show. And no William Banks is not a traditional interventionist but there are in fact a few people and organizations on the West Coast that work exactly like he does.

Anyway for all of you that have not watched the show ... maybe skip season 2 and spare yourself the disappointment.

I swear there's a word to describe people like you... Egocentric? You believe anything beyond your personal experience is implausible.

the fact that the OP started by pointing out that his family had money is when I stopped reading. Been involved with people who did just what the main character in this show did.

There are ex-addicts out there who make their life work to save people
