WIlliam commited suicide anyway, his grandson did not learn about him, and Solo just kept being the great human being he always was.
Anybody care to explain when and how "their lives were changed forever"???

I disagree completely about Solo at the beginning of the movie. He wasn't a *beep* at all. As soon as he realized what William intended, he made it his goal to help him through whatever was going on. He tried to give the $100 back the next day. He was already trying to become a flight attendant and have more stability for when his baby was born.
He had his flaws like everyone does and he became an even better man, but I thought he was a great man from the beginning.
William took his own life. I'd call that "changed". And unless I misjudged Solo, this experience had a dramatic effect on his life.

I agree completely. Neither of them were changed. That line was just pure PR Bullshit designed to sell tickets.
Oddly enough on IMDB it said that we don't know if he committed suicide. Technically this is correct, because we don't actually see him jump. However it is certainly implied that he did.
I still liked the movie.
