Cancer Porn

The whole movie consists of a bunch of depressing "tearjerker" scenes tied together with a shot of one of the teary-eyed cast members positioned where the light illuminates them in an angelic glow in front of "beautiful" scenery (beach, mountains, rain) accompanied by some melancholy folksy song. Repeated over and over again. I mean, the subject matter is undoubtedly sad (nearly everyone has been through the loss of a loved one), but this movie just struck me as being so mechanical and OBVIOUS in how it tried to affect us that I ended up not caring much for it. Acting was pretty good, though.

totally agree. We watched it and laughed at a few stages it was so OTT. Was wrong to laugh given the issue but what the hell ?? 2/10

That's funny. I felt that way about the movie Up, and when I mentioned it on that board I was fairly chased out with torches and pitchforks.
I didn't feel that way about this movie, but then, I went into it knowing the premise and feeling prepared for the subject matter to be blubbery. I was not disappointed. If nothing else, it was cathartic, which I hear is good for the soul.

Just saw the film today and though I liked it well enough. It did seem superficial and obvious in trying to manipulate the audience.
