Not sure how a film so focused on the culture of Japan can be remade with the US in mind.

A lot of the beauty of the film focused on the respect shown towards the dead. The ceremony in particular. Many a times, the embalming process was shown in front of the deceased family. Is that even a practice in the United States? How in the world will be the bridge between repulsion and complete understanding be made clear? I do not believe every culture can be remade into another culture. That's what makes all of our individual heritage unique and so magical. But I am willing to wait and see.

Maybe they'll contextualize by an American who does foreign funerals or some such thing? They could also just set it in Japan but make it English. If you look at the English and Swedish versions of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - they were pretty much identical movies with different actors and language.
