Identity and actual theft (mere borrowing of the necklace, perhaps, but it was not their property and the expense of the flight, hotel etc was very real) will be completely overlooked if you are nicer than the person you are stealing from.

You forgot kidnapping. I was waiting for the movie to take a dark turn and have the real heiress get killed.

I did forget that, and by extension there was also assault. But still, they were nicer than the heiress, so all was well.

movie should've ended with the trio being admitted to Centre pénitentiaire de Rennes.
