There have been so many ''light'' versions that people...

have begun to get the wrong idea of what this is supposed to be.

Dickens' book is very dark and very scary at times, it was not intended for small children yet people seem to think it was and expect every version to be like Mickey's Christmas Carol and if it isn't they're either surprised or shy away from it altogether.

I have a friend who doesn't like this version because it's too dark and scary, I tried to explain that it's accurate to the book but to no avail.

If you're going to dislike a film based on a book than that's fine but to hold the films accuracy against it is freakin' stupid IMO.

I really hate it when people say this story is for children. Its a bloody Ghost story. There even some book shops over here in Scotland that advertise this book as being a children's book. It really is stupid. I agree with you, digitalboy72 1000%. Its getting beyond a joke.

Children should be encouraged to read it though.

A Christmas Carol is dark, but this version goes a little over the top at times.

For instance, the scene where Scrooge sees all of the ghosts outside his window. Just seeing those spirits should be eerie enough. There's no need for one to jump out and scare the crap out of him.

I can forgive those small flourishes, they stick very close to the book.

Imagine how scary the whole Marley scene in the book would have been for the Victorians? No matter how dark this film was or whatever they added to it to make it darker it still wouldn't compare to to how scary Dickens originally intended it to be.

Do you know the way to Shell Beach?

personally i found this version a bit too slapstick for me, the muppets version had slapstick but that was fine as they were muppets, i felt in this it just felt misplaced and too much humour in the wrong places.

It's a ghost story, I'm glad they went all in.

Me,too. The thought of kiddie stuff, like the Muppets, cuddly sugar causers (LOL) even DOIN' this is even more "frightening" than are any of the four ghosts (including Jacob Marley). :)
