I really can't guess how this film will be subtitled or dubbed abroad... Even we French people can't understand the whole of it, then, what about non French speaking people ? Because of this, I'm not sure it'll be a hit outside French speaking countries... Anyway, extremly pleasant film.
shareI saw the film yesterday in cinema, it was dubbed to german. And you know what - the translation was absolutely awesome. The Voice of Danny Boon was spoken by "Christoph Maria Herbst" a famous german comedian and he did it perfectly. They spoke in an abolutely weird dialect which could exist in germany but it does not. It sounded a little bit like "Schwäbisch" (a dialect in south-west germany). If you were concentraited you could understand it but it was not easy.
However, very funny film!

If you´re from a german-speaking country, you pretty sure know how awful most german dubbed versions suck.

It made me enjoy this movie from the beginning till the very end.
They actually invented a dialect for the german version. I havent seen it yet, but it is supposed to be really good, and the german trailer is hilarious!

It takes you like two minutes to get used to it and then it´s great.
I´ve seen this movie in a sneak-preview and at first I was like "what the hell ....?" but only for the first 2 scenes and then all of a sudden I totaly got it.
I have to agree with the others who saw the german version. It is really funny. They created an artificial non existing dialect which works really great,even for an Austrian like me. "The difference between Germans and Austrians lays in their common language" is a popular saying which illustrates pretty well this difference.
And I think that this is a universal story, which works everywhere. Therefor I could immagine, that this film will be a huge success in many other countries too.
Normally I hate dubbed versions, and prefer the original, no matter if it is English or French, or anything else.
By the way, the native english speakers can also wait for "Welcome to the Sticks" which should come out in 2010. Will Smith bought the rights for a Hollywood remake.
I just saw it dubbed in Italian. They invented some words, they pronounced "sh" instead of "s" (and some similar stuff) etc etc...It didnt really seem like a difficult dialect (which, I guess, was the point of the french film), but I guess that the dubbing people couldnt do anything better.
Still, the film was enjoyable.
I'm watching it in French with English subtitles right now (Christmas present from my inlaws) the dubbing is pretty good. My French is mediocre at best, but I'm catching it. My husband is Ch'ti so I have a little more experience with this stuff than I'd like at times! ;-)
shareI don't understand french, in fact i'm a chilean, so i speak in Latinamerican-spanish, and i've seen this movie in spanish from spain translation and i found it very, very funny.
I believe, this is a movie for adult people with an adult sense of humour, then if your are watching a translated version of a french movie you should understand tha maybe the words and accents are an adaptation, is a kind of "spanishly" adapted french differences of accent, and the same for other countries.
In my opinion the translation following the rules of Ch'tis language is better than subtitles.

i think subtitles in this movie can't give you the idea of different pronunciation. If you dont speak freanch like me you'll never understand the difference, at my ears is "french stuff" so the best way is giving the idea in a different language, changing the sound and build up some neologism
I hate dubbing but i have to say that here in Italy they were a good job.
Traducing for example chanching the sound
To make an example in this Ch'tis language they say "ch'est ti?" for "c'est toi?" so they chnged some word like "cose" (things in english) in "coscke" with the hard c sound...but i know is not the same.
Yeah not an international movie but if you try to understand you'll enjoy
