5.9 Are you kidding me!!!

This film was decent in all departments and was wrapped up in a nice little bow with a good message...

5.9 is rediculous, I must admit I let the IMDB score set the benchmark for most things I watch...(Which I have heard many times is dumb anyway)..But never again will I let that silly rating prevent me from seeing some good little films like this one.

reply

It was good. What can I say, IMDB is infested with idiots and people with god awful taste.

Can't agree more. Recently it's rare to see a wild bird in my living except Pipits and swallows Or maybe I to ignorant to search ones. But, after I watch this movie I can see why there's birder.

This movie didn't tell us The beauty about the birds its self, but also the beauty about choosing in live, how to reach your dream, giving support to each other and handle your ego. This movie is brilliant with a brilliant actor. 5.9 Points just too harsh.

I can tell you why this film was rated lower than it should. According to Hollywood standards, there isn't nudity, sex scene or any other kind of F-bombs in this film. After seeing three comedians, people expect this to be hilarious as hell, but its not.

I just seen The Big Year and I kinda like it. It isn't like super awesome film but it should at least be above the 6/10.

Yeah, this movie was super-cool in all the right ways, if you have any love for nature! I rate it a 9. A rare and unique movie which was motivated by true interest in the subject and not commercial interests.

A 9 here, too. Here's why: I spent days trying to buy this during the 2012 Christmas season, I couldn't find it anywhere. Finally rejoined Netflix and got a rental delivered. I can't think of a time I put in that much effort to get a film. I knew my wife would love it and I had only seen the last half while tuning into HBO. My wife and I volunteer to do bird counts and this was an absolute crack up for us. As a professional biologist, there are many parallels to what I do when I'm passionate on what I'm working on.

I really enjoyed the movie, im no birdwatcher and i give it a 9!
I donĀ“t know if birdwatchers like the movie more or less than the average person, it does play a little at their OCD over birdwatching... But people that are not birdwatchers could just as well be OCD about something else in life. I hope birdwatchers do like this movie a bit more than the average viewer and take it with a smile!

9/10

I enjoyed this movie as well. I think there are a lot of immature people rating these movies or giving it a bad score just because there is no nudity, sex, drugs use or violence in it.

It would be nice to have more movies like this.

I really enjoyed it too. I'm a fan of British humour and I thought Americans forgot how to make funny films, there are so many funny old Americans films but nowadays almost all are just toilet humour. Farts, sex jokes etc... It's good to see a funny American film after a long time. I'm not that surprised actually because there's Steve Martin in this film. The guy is a legend, I don't know a young American actor who's done any comedy on his level. I mean "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" is just one of the best comedy films ever, and my favourite (though to be fair, Michael Caine was also amazing in that film and Palpatine too! :)) That said, Owen Wilson and Jack Black were also very good. It shows they can do good stuff when there's clever writing. I laughed out loud when SPOILER!!! the birds attacked the girl in Attu and he said "Hitchcockian" SPOILER!!! I mean that was just an awesome comment. :)

All in all, a great film. I'm from Turkey and the modern comedy here is garbage, I like British comedy and also some French and Italian comedy as well, and I thought Americans' sense of humour was lost after the end of 90s but it seems there are those who know what good comedy is in Hollywood, still.

reply

the rating is low cause i bet everybody thought it would be a comedy movie, put 3 comedians in the poster and you think you would end up laughing , its a good drama , adventure, family movie with a good message.

reply

Agreed. People expected something other than what it was. Not sure whether that was a marketing error, or just a misinformed public...

reply

It's not really a big-screen type movie, but it should still be a 7.0 at least... (8+ if viewed at at home, on a snowy night, with the family!!!)

Oh well, I suppose we should just be happy that it got made at all in these times we live in. Thanks to the cast and crew for creating this brief reprieve from also much garbage out there.

Otterprods, to keep those aquatic Mustelidae in line.
