The one director who could do this justice.

In my mind, the only one who fits the bill is Nicolas Winding Refn.

I know to some, this may seem controversial. Only God Forgives definitely has it's fair share of haters, as does The Neon Demon, but I feel he is the only director currently working with the right qualifications. He has a big enough name to warrant getting the job. His track record is strange enough that he could find the right tone. Producers would understand his stylistic choices (based on previous work) enough to left him off the leash a bit and create his own vision, instead of forcing him into a by the numbers remake, and I think he's a strong enough personality to fight for his vision if the producers tried to micromanage the project.

I'm sure there are others who could make it work. Gasper Noe and Lars Van Trier I'm sure wouldn't mind a swing at it, but for my money, I can't think of a director whose version of a Suspira remake I would rather see.

Who would be your dream director?

I fully agree with Refn. Not only The Neon Demon was, like Suspiria, a dark gothic female-centered fable, but it also contained another key element of Argento's original: the striking color palette. Von Trier and Villeneuve are famous for the quality of their movies' cinematography - and justly so - but only Refn, right now, can pull the retina-burning/primary colors cinematography of the original.

Just curious if anyone criticizing this has seen any of Guadagnino's work before deciding he's incapable of doing it well?
