Why such a low rating?

I know not many people have voted on the rating for this film, but I was wondering if anyone who has seen it can suggest why it got such a low rating.

I just looked at the imdb detail and discovered that in this particular case it is not so much the voters but the way imdb defines its ratings that is the cause of the problem. The system is built on a weighted average to counterract the effects of people ganging up: you know the drill, every Paris Hilton film gets 10,000 votes of 1 point each from haters, to put it into the Bottom 100. On the other end, many people vote 10 to try and boost a rating acting as shills (they might work for the company that made the film or at least the publicity agency repping it). This Elle Fanning film seems to be suffering: it got more than 200 votes of 10, currently producing a 7.8 average, near the zone of the most Excellent (by vote) imdb films, since 8.2 among regular voters gets you into the Top 250. However, the imdb WEIGHTED AVERAGE reduces the 7.8 to 7.5, penalizing the folks who voted 10; the system doesn't reject these votes but discounts them, thinking there are phoneys included. I don't have a solution for this; all such polls are on the honor system. The only true solution, is way too awkward, namely to follow the Academy Awards system where Top Foreign Language Film voters have to prove they attended special screenings of all 5 Nominated films to be eligible to vote which of the 5 is best (makes sense); on an international imdb system with a million potential voters (popular new films get over 100,000 votes each) a system of submitting a ticket stub or netflix/blockbuster receipt or something like that would have to be used -VERY difficult to implement. Even in a popularity contest like imdb, I hate the fact that so many jerks vote for films they haven't seen. For me to vote on a film I haven't sat through is tantamount to cheating at solitaire!

Yeah, I'm not sure why so many people rated this so low but I found it to be a beautiful movie. Of course I like most of the indie films that I've seen so it could very well be that I am biased to unconventional movies.
