Fany of this - tell me why?

I watched this today. Sat through the whole thing, and could sorta follow what was going on, but it was hard to ever feel invested in anything. I seem to have a bit of an aversion to French cinema, particularly this kind (arty, avante garde, etc). The movies never connect with me the way Italian or Spanish films do.

So for anyone who knows this movie, and loves it, or even just likes it - I'd be interested to hear what it means to you and what you enjoy most.
