This movie was super uncomfortable if you ain't gay...

I am not a homophobe but that's the truth for me.

You said it well OP in your post, it's YOUR truth, but the tittle of your thread it's a wrong generalization.

I'm not gay and I found this film great and very moving.

Please excuse my terrible redaction, english is not my native language.

I never had any problem with gays. Its seems that America wants a sanitized society!

Oh yeah, meaning a real American is a heterosexual WASP. WASPs have controlled the country for 350 years and just look at what a mess they have made. No prejudice here, this film viewer is one.

Why? I'm gay and can quite comfortably watch men/women or women/women go at it. Also I have straights friends ho as far as I know aren't uncomfortable watching gay stuff.

reply

If it makes you uncomfortable, you have a phobia about it, therefore are a homophobic.

Swing away, Merrill....Merrill, swing away...

It didn't make me uncomfortable, in fact, I thought it was cowardly to not even include a single "proper" gay sex scene. If you're going to make me watch 2 hours of gay propaganda oscar bait, at least go all the way.

reply

I felt the same way watching Brokeback Mountain, even though I actually enjoyed the film. I haven't seen this one yet.

paomiazoh,

Though I respect your feelings on the subject, and feeling the way you do appreciate your openness in viewing the film in the first place, I have to say your comment comes across as somewhat juvenile.

As a gay person, I have been viewing straight love and sex scenes my entire life, and am not always comfortable with them, so can understand that if this was something new to you it may well have been an uncomfortable feeling to see.

Nonetheless, as you were open minded enough to give it a shot, it strikes me as disingenuous of you to go to the trouble of making a post specifically aimed at the film's content. The very heading of your post assumes that all straight people feel as you do and only the LGBT community will be comfortable with the subject manner....Untrue.

The film's critical and relative box office success suggest that many people of various sexual orientations admired the production. Perhaps this indicates that the problem lay not with the film's content and subject matter, but rather within yourself?

Personally, I'm not a fan of sex scenes in film as a rule - I tend to fast forward through them when possible as I find them boring - but in an instance when they are pertinent to the plot and forward the story, I watch because they're a part of telling the story.

And I don't bitch about it afterward.

the "sex" scenes were either just some kissing or very short/shot in the dark so they didn't bother me

so many movies, so little time
