anyone else saddened that this wasn't a Mega-hit?

I thought this was an extremely well done movie.

Yeah, it records on Wikipedia that there won't be a sequel.

I have mixed feelings about that: I want to see more of Megamind and Minion and Roxanne, but it looks like Megamind's journey is more or less complete: from becoming a villain he has become a hero, and it'd be difficult to know where to go from that.

IMO, this is the best CGI movie ever. Better than the Incredibles, Finding Nemo or Walle. Just fantastic all around.

I love Megamind, I watch it repeatedly. IMO it's up there with Toy Story as the best cg animated film.

I found Frozen overrated.

Yeah. Wow, I just finished it... this is certainly the unrecognized gem in the Dreamworks canon. I thought it was one of the best stories they've ever told, and one of their funniest films to boot.

I didn't mind Despicable Me, but this is a far better film and the fact that DM ended up becoming a huge franchise while this went virtually unrecognized is a bit saddening.

Yeah... very impressive movie. I would have liked to see more of that world and those characters, in a sequel, etc...

Definitely! It deserves a lot more praise than it gets and it should've been bigger on it's release. It's extremely underrated and it's a fantastic movie!

I feel like people judged it right off the bat, without seeing it, just because it's a DreamWorks movie! I don't even get people's problem with DreamWorks, they make some great movies but some people have their heads wedged so far up Disney/Pixar's arses that they blind themselves to it! I love Disney and Pixar movies but I can also see when another movie is just as good, or in some cases better, than a Disney/Pixar movie!

I wish people would stop comparing the two and I especially wish they'd stop comparing the movies if they have a slightly similar theme! This movie gets compared to The Incredibles all the time just because they both feature superheroes but the films are completely different in every way! The character's are completely different, the story, the humour, the style and the messages that the movies are giving are all completely different! I actually love both movies and I enjoy them both equally but for very different reasons because they're both very different movies! Antz and A Bug's Life had the same problem. They both had ants in them so people judged them by comparing them to each other, as opposed to watching them both and just judging them on the film itself. I can guarantee you that if the tables were turned and DreamWorks released a movie and then a few years later, Pixar released a movie that featured something similar or had the same animal, no one would bat an eyelid or compare it to the DreamWorks one!

The production budget was 130 million, at most publicity was the same, so that's 260 million. Worldwide it took in 321 million, adding the 66 million from DVD/Blu-ray sales, that's 387 million. So over 100 million in profit.

It makes me sad. It's one of my favorites and every time I see it I gotta go check if there's a chance of a follow-up all over again.

My daughter and I were discussing earlier which films we can watch over and over without getting tired of them, we love almost all of the Pixar and Dreamworks films but the only ones we feel we can watch repeatedly are The Incredibles and Megamind.

Unfortunately Megamind was not only released around the same time as Despicable Me (which got A LOT more attention) but it was also released at a time when there was a real snobbery going on with regards to Dreamworks, people were very much of the mind that Pixar was way superior to D/Works and even though DM wasn't a Pixar film, people were willing to give it much more of a chance than a D/works film at that time, as a previous poster said, a lot of people already judged it as inferior before its release simply because it was D/works.

I feel like if Megamind was released now, it would be much better received and would maybe be viewed as being one of the top animated films. I'm not sure but I think maybe as time has gone on and more people have discovered it, the IMDB rating for this film has gone up. 7.3 is a really good rating and you don't see many negative comments on the message boards either.
