Why did she flash them?

It seems almost suicidal.

I don't get it either... That would be divorce talk for me.
But she was a slut, afterall...

reply

Well at this point all they were doing is leering and she knew them all, she didn't think they would go that far. Also I think she did it just to tease them, make it harder for them to live with the fact they ain't gonna get that.

reply

Yeah, look how that worked out.

reply

I think she did it to get back at her fella.. (cant remember his name)he was basically saying she deserved to get leered as she was not wearing a bra...

So she was kinda saying, screw you, i'll give them something to look at!

'Bang, bang, bangity bang. I said a bang bang, bangity bang!!'

reply

I agree with you OoohBabyBaby. It absolutely had more to do with anger at her husband than how she felt towards the work guys. Had her husband supported her in some way, I doubt the character would have done what she did. There would be no point.

She was hurt and angry with her husband, that was the motivation.

reply

Only a whore, and an immature one at that, would behave like that. If you're saying that that's a typical female thing to do, it's a dangerous stance you're taking! The only person worthy of sympathy is David for having to live with such a sleazy dirty and abhorrent whore.

I totally agree with you, her husband was not "not supportive" at all. She was the one doing weird things and looking for trouble and she behaved like a... slut. I almost wanted to slap her because she got on my nerves all the time. She acted like a victim until she became really one with the rape. I don't want to say that she deserved it (nobody does) but she was definitely looking for problems and her attitude was wrong most of the time. Her husband's character was quite normal and emotionally balanced, for me. Good remake BTW. I liked it.

reply

She flashed them because deep down she had secret sex fantasies of being raped, and lets just say her dreams came true. She certainly got exactly what she deserved. I love that rape scene so much, but the original movies rape scene is far sexier.

reply

I agree. I like the way you think. Like a lot of repressed women, she wants to have sex but can't admit it openly, so sometimes a guy has to "rape" her to give her what she needs. She gets to have hot sex and not feel guilty about it becuase hey it was "rape".

I agree exactly. Research has shown that there are many female rape 'victims', that after their rape, they have become much more sexually liberated, as if the rape attack has released all of their sexual inhibitions, and that they then often fantasise about being raped again, and fantasise about the man who raped them.

I think its the most stupid thing in the world to flash to some guys and not pretend to be raped by them .

"Women think in such a weird way..."
Holy God. You do realize that this is just a movie, written by a MAN, and that a REAL woman did not come up with this idea to flash a bunch of drunken rednecks? Why did she flash them? Because the GD writer needed more conflict to push the plot. This is called "The Idiot Plot". Lazy writing where people do stupid things in order to force certain events in a movie. Please see The Cabin In The Woods where they skewer "The Idiot Plot" and cliches in horror movies.

reply

I actually stopped watching at that point. Stupid, stupid stupid. And during the scene before where her husband very politely pointed out that she's practically naked, of course they stared - all I could think was 'yes, he's right!'
Maybe it shouldn't be that way, but it is. If I don't want to get stared and leered at by idiots I don't go jogging in bum-shorts with no bra under my vest. It hardly hinders my life. I laughed when she said meekly 'I dress for you' and he retorted 'Yeah, well I know what you look like naked'. I completely agreed with him.
Also I was finding it very hard to get along with Kate's character - she kept shoving her horrid feet in his face then giggling. I didn't get it.

Do you write this rubbish on purpose to get an angry response? What a sad loser you are. try reading a book if you're bored.

reply

No, I genuinely believe that as she was deliberately acting sexy in front of those lustful men, then she got exactly the 'rough' treatment she deserved.

reply

She flashed them to further frustrate them in a sense it was to say, "Fluck you, you can't get this."

She knows what she is doing. She knows of what they are capable. Sometimes, when revisiting old relationships, people have a tendency to fall into a familiar groove.

And, she was pi55ed off at her husband for telling her to cover up. She wanted him to have a jealous reaction. He disappointed her.

"But I'm here now..."

reply

because they where sneaking around behind her back while she was running, she took her clothes off if to say "well you's where hiding behind me,watching me,here it is losers" now its gone

how was she supposed to know the men she grew up with where going to rape her and torment her and her husband?

That was a weak point in the movie to show how suddenly her old boyfriend got that crazed look in his eyes. To make sense of the rest of the foolishness. I just find it amazing how many of these bad movies have so many good actors in them. There was just so much swill like that sceen that you have to wonder how the hell they managed to keep big talent

reply

I think these actors signed onto the film for different reasons. Lurie said that James Woods is a friend of his, and did it as a favor.

But for the rest of them, mainly the principals, I think they did it for the challenge of it. Straw Dogs was a famous, notorious film back in the 70's - a so-called icon - banned in Great Britain for a number of years. Lurie wants to try it - someone had gotten the rights to it, he writes the screen play, talks to Dustin Hoffman, gets the approval from him (Hoffman calls it a Western, and to go for it).

Now why James Marsden was chosen for the lead - I don't know. It was Screen Gems. Marsden had appeared in at least one other Screen Gems film (Death at a Funeral) - was it a multi-picture contract that he had signed, and Screen Gems told Lurie that they had to fulfill this contract?

I really don't know how this works. But I've seen that Marsden has appeared in two films from the same company before - Sex Drive, for example, and something else. Summit Entertainment.

Marsden seems to always be up for challenges and this may be a principal reason for him. To walk around in Hoffman's shoes.

Oh. And then Marsden calls Bosworth and asks if she'd play Amy. They had worked together before, and I guess he felt comfortable working with her, and thought she'd be good in the role. He's mentioned that in interviews, and said that she is "courageous"..

I have no idea what prompted Skartsgard to be in the film. To work some more on American accents? He was a better choice than the guy in the original (but I still don't like him).

That's my thinking on this, for what it's worth.

My take on it is that her husband told her to wear a bra. She told him she only dressed like that for him. He basically told her that she didn't need to because he has already seen her naked before. So basically, it probably didn't really excite him that much any more because he's seen the whole package. So I believe that she decided to flash those guys because they were licking her with their eyes, so she thought maybe if I flash them and show them the whole package, it wouldn't be as exciting for them in the future because they know whats underneath her shirt now. There's no longer a mystery there. Plus, she probably also wanted to get back at her husband for the comment he made.

reply

The way I took it was after her husband said "I already know what you looked like naked" she was hurt. He basically said its not that exciting anymore, and she knew it would excite those guys, so it was almost to make herself feel more secure, of course she didn't know how far it was going to end up going.

So she was proving her husband wrong, and making herself feel a little better.
