This was so badly shot.

Seriously, the first two movies had BEAUTIFUL cinematography with breathtaking visuals, but this movie's cinematography was lackluster and amateur at best. Nearly every shot was either a shaky close-up or a dizzying tracking shot, and it was annoying as hell. Also, mostly all of the shots were completely off-angle, and never centered on the point of interest. I miss the first two movie's cinematography.

mcalpine has done an excellent job, as well as lindenlaub, but spinotti is better than both of them. chosing the set up is not his job, but apteds, blame him.

I 100% agree. It ruined the film for me.

reply

Totally agree.

This was awful. It looks like a movie from Asylum.

reply

OP, I soooo agree with you. One scene was good though, with the large wave.

Some of it looked pretty good - the locations and sets were great but the way it was shot looked cheap at points, some scenes looked like they were from a SyFy channel TV movie - they didn't look cinematic at all

VDT was shot digitally. The other two Narnia films were shot on 35 mm film. In fact, since the subject came up on this thread, I'd like to add that the Middle Earth films were the same way. LOTR was shot on film where the Hobbit was shot digitally. Most people like it; some people.. just don't. Other don't notice the difference. It's more economical and logistically more practical, but it does have a slightly different feel. Personally, I like it. And as more younger viewers grow up watching movies filmed digitally, they will grow to be accustomed to it.

It looked very digital unfortunately.

Raging Bull = Best movie

They went digital with this film probably because of budget reasons.

While I agree it in no way matches up to the first two films, the less crisp look is the bigger problem, to me. The cinematography isn't terrible, it's just... lacking. Like much of the rest of the film.

There are a few moments that came out pretty well, though - particularly the lily sea, as CitizenCairParavel has noted. I do like the long shot of the ship sailing into it, when you can see it all laid out and Aslan's Country beyond.
