two things made this movie inferior TO ME (SPOILERS)....

First, was Kalatu's abrupt reversal on his decision. I know he was working up to it with his observations and all, but seeing the mom say "Save my kid instead of me" sacrifice was played out very weak. I wanted more dialog from him to see him really grow into the reversal. Not just "ok, heartfelt boxes ticked, mind changed". The other alien guy grew to love his human life, where as Klaatu just kinda thought, "Meh, okay, they seem decent" going against all evidence to the contrary. Just felt weak.

Second, the ending was a dud, moving the earth stoppage to the end and have him leave. No one learned a thing from the earth stopping. It was almost pointless, because it stops and he leaves. He could have simply left and the Earth stopping or not would have no effect on the course of the movie. It was very pivotal in the original, but here, it was like just showing off the dated effects, he leaves, the end. Zero reprocussions. We could GUESS whatever we want after the end, but they could have given us the happy ending it really was, rather than cut to credits.

Oh well. Bad idea remaking well respected classics anyway. Is what it is.
