What the hay??? Please, spoilers welcome!

Okay, I watched every minute of The Last Enemy, enjoyed some of it, etc etc etc.

BUT it ended and I STILL don't know what the heck was going on. Three questions, to start with:

1) Why did Russell kill Michael at the end? What was Russell's story, anyway?

2) Who was the guy who got killed on Russell's electric fence? Who was he working for?

3) Who was the "last enemy"? Russell?? WHY?

thanks for any insights.

I just watched this show for the first time this weekend after buying the DVD, and I agree that it's one of those shows that leaves you with quite a lot of questions.

Personally I still haven't figured out who those Russian speaking guys were or who hired them. Were they perhaps also hired by the government in case Russel failed? Or perhaps the private company who had created the T.I.A.? The fact that they had several opportunities to kill Russel and didn't makes me suspect that they might have been on the same side, but that Russel wasn't aware of this. But it's all just speculation, of course, trying to fit those guys into the story somehow.

And I wondered what Russel was doing at the gallery when the Prime Minister committed suicide??

As for Russel, I'm under the impression that he was working for Turney all along. But he was so deep under cover that no one other than Turney and himself knew this. And I don't think he knew everything from the start. My guess is that he was merely given orders at first, but wanted to know what was going on and started his own investigation. I don't think Turney filled him in properly until the very end. That would explain a lot of his behaviour during the first episodes, like why he needed to see Nadir's body (also this could be part of making his cover story as Nadir's stepfather believable to Yasim and Stephen), and why it seemed like he didn't know much about what was going on at first.

I don't think that saving Yasim and Stephen from "the Russians" was a part of Russel's assignment. I got the impression that was a matter of conscience. They weren't supposed to die at that point and thus not a part of Russel's assignment. Russel didn't come off as a completely ruthless or heartless man. He merely did his job and carried out his orders. And he seemed to genuinely like Yasim, at least.

The reason he killed Michael was because he was ordered to. Michael had knowledge that could bring down the government, and that made him a loose end which needed to be tied up. He carried evidence of the tag project in his blood. I don't think Yasim was killed. She also knew about the project, however with Michael gone there was no evidence left to support that knowledge, and the government could be quite sure that nobody would believe her if she tried to spill the beans.

Who was "the last enemy"? I'd say that was England itself. England (or the English government) was so preoccupied with protecting itself that in the end it backfired.

Or at least this is my 25 cents worth of speculation...
