What is up with Mischa Barton's accent?

Is she supposed to be British? Because she sure didn't sound like it!

It was a pretty pointless cameo.

Honestly, I’ve always found her accent really strange, when she’s talking normally and on TV. Her accent in this didn’t seem all that different for me to be honest. But I don’t really think anyone can criticise her accent when the film doesn’t actually state whether she is American or British, and they didn’t really need to because she had such a small part.

Its a shame her role was so small.

OK - no problem with her accent, assuming she was meant to be American. She certainly sounded American. Can't name the exact area tho. If she was supposed to be "British", whatever that is, then definitely NO. I am English, from England, with an ENGLISH accent. London, actually.

There is no such thing as a BRITISH accent.

Still love the film btw, very cool, very "British" (whatever that is)

I remember reading an interview where she said she tried doing an English accent for the film. But if it annoys you so much, feel lucky; she was originally cast as Kelly, but she decided against it, feeling that the role should actually go to someone British.

Tony Stark: Let's face it, this is not the worst thing you've caught me doing.

It was American with a hint of Brit at the ends. Like an American who spends too much time in England and gets an inflection on their accent. Thought hers wasn't quite there. If you need an example, Cary Grant had that weird inflection.

Bloody amazing. Our friend Jazz Piano here created a little blog here so that everybody could discuss/diss dear Mischa without admitting their fascination with the tall elegant O.C. star. She has a small part only, but she gets more attention, but nobody's coming forward saying outright just how passionate they are about her. Everybody's quite bottled up about their love/hate relationship, and the haters are too blinded by their envy to realize that their hate=love.

Instead, they waffle on down reams of scrolling re her accent.

She's got nice long legs and nice blonde hair and a nice cute face and she is hated/desired for this, but never ignored.

Just cast your petty jealousies aside, and go, “Aw gee, I cannot look like that even if I tried for a million years, yeah, life sucks!” and BEEPing deal with it! Maybe you might end up being just a little more attractive.
