Long Way Up?

'In an exclusive interview with MCN this week Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman revealed they are planning to do another riding documentary, if we want it to happen.

The pair who last weekend finished their latest adventure, Long Way Down, taking the acting duo from John O’Groats to Cape Town in South Africa spoke to MCN this week about their plans for the new trip.

Charley Boorman told MCN: “We are already talking about doing another one – we’re thinking about calling it Long Way Up and starting from South America, that sort of thing.

”If people are happy to watch it then we are more than happy to do another one.” '

So South America to maybe Alaska, I want to see it!!!Please :-)

The guys already went through Alaska and the Mid-West/Eastern parts of America during the filming for LWR. I heard that "Long Way Up" was going to cover South/Central America and the western part of the U.S. (ending in California...Los Angeles most likely).

I think going through Nova Scotia would be a great idea!!

Anyone heard anything new about this recently?

Me and a close friend have always talked about doing a trip from Alaska to Chile. It's been our dream adventure if we could ever raise enough money and find the time off to do it.

But looking at it, that's the only way they should do it. If you start in South America - all the adventure is in the first half of the trip - the second part is just seeing North America and what appeal would that have for either of them? They've already been through Alaska, California would be hell for them, and all the roads are relatively perfect compared to what they're used to. They would have to do it going down, otherwise it's nowhere near as exciting.

I do hope we hear more about this, I'm very curious as to how they approach the Darien Gap subject (if you don't know what I'm talking about, wikipedia it - you'd have to be a complete and utter maniac to try and go through it today)- something that has completely stumped me and my friend whenever we talk about it. There is a ferry that will take you between Panama and Columbia, but you miss a great deal of both countries that way and it would get them off track if they wanted to head towards the Amazon. I've been thinking of writing Charley to see what he would consider with this.

I keep searching the net for any news of a third trip, but all I seem to find is speculation or quotes from Ewan and/or Charley that are around three years old. Has anyone heard anything lately?

Fingers crossed; it's truely fantastic viewing.

What?? No appeal??? Are you saying that North America is "boring"? America is a big country with a diverse landscape and loads of interesting people. Just because the lads have visited/travelled through a few states doesn't mean that they've seen all that there is to see. I could give the same disparaging remarks about Mongolia or Kazakhstan but the "Long Way Round" documentary has helped to open our Western eyes a little through their journey of discovery. There is adventure wherever you look. I think you need a new pair of eyes that aren't filled with so much presumption.

Getting back on topic, I believe Ewan and Charlie have considered/are considering a bike trip around the whole of Australia at one point. Ewan's quite busy right now with his filming until 2010. Maybe there will be another bike ride in 2011?

Buddy I've been all over the US and love my country, but that doesn't change the fact that it's nowhere near as appealing for an *adventure* as South American, African, and Asian countries.

The thing that's remarkable about their trips to Mongolia and Kazakhstan is that they aren't well known and foreign to all of us. I couldn't tell you at all the day in the life of a Mongolian or understand how tribes in Africa are able to survive as long as they do. It's interesting and fascinating stuff. That's not to say the US doesn't have amazing people, but compared to the Amazon and Central American regions we are downright tame and boring.

Sorry you disagree with me, but I'll use their first 2 trips as proof.

Long Way Round - after completing the Road of Bones in Russia, they basically jet through all of North America (summed up entirely in 1 episode if I recall correctly).

Long Way Down - even though they did complain about rushing through it, they flew through Europe in no time to catch a boat to Africa.

Point is - you can make a case for our country all you want, but in the end I still don't see Ewan and Charlie looking at it as the high point of their trip.

How about "Long Way Down Under"? I vote for Australia. That would interest me much more than a trip through South America.
